Well, now I'm seriously considering dumping my XV6800 and moving on to the Omnia! Thanks Jon for your review and answering my specific question so quickly. Happy Holidays.

Got my Verizon Omnia i910.. Spb Mobile shell, Pocket Plus, Time, couple of skins, Agenda fusion 8, SBSH Pocket Weather, Memmaid. Works with my Garmin XT software and external Puck. Love this thing! Iphone is dumb by comparison. You can tweak to your heart's content! Great camera if you turn on the anti-shake.

Only con I have found: The dangling "eyeliner" case stylus. Actually, I'm needing it less and less as days go by. Getting very "finger friendly"

Default Omnia Review

Great review! Thanks.

I just purchased an Omnia for me for christmas. I hated the widget and got rid of that as soon as I figured out how to do so. I don't like the Samsung main menu either. I now have mine set up so it looks my PocketPC, an HP Ipaq 210 and an hx4700. Now I'm much happier. I hesitated to buy it due to the crap screen and the lack of a normal earphone jack. I wish the memory card was external as well but at least it is Windows Mobile. I love Windows Mobile. I have tons of Excel spreadsheets and 10 plus years of bird watching data as well as GPS/GIS topo map data for Bald Eagle nest locations on it which can''t be put on any other operating system. I don't mind the lack of a keyboard at all. In fact I like it. I have Caligrapher 8 which I have programed over 1000 shortcuts for bird names alone. I also use my Think Outside bluetooth keyboard or my bluetooth laser keyboard to type on it if needed. I am really good at using the block recognizer so use that a lot when not in a position to use a keyboard. I'm still setting this thing up. I won't have it tweeked for quite some time. It is fun to have a new cool tool to play with. ;-)

I've had the Omnia since July and I love it (using AT&T). It's not perfect but close. Popped in my Sim and it just started working.
The worse things I found are:
1. The onboard GPS is really hokey to get a signal with TomTom. They just don't start up talking to each other very well. The best advice I've found is to use GPSgate first to acquire a signal and then start TomTom. That works.
2. The camera does not have zoom.
3. The all-in one connector > uses a Samsung plug and wire setup for headphones. I found a doogle on ebay that works a little better.
4. BT earpiece won't start MS Voice Command. Will answer OK.
5. And of course the biggest one is no 3G in US. There is hope that this can be overcome in the future with a rom update of a cooked rom as it is optimistic that the hardware chip and antenna currently in the i900 will handle 3G. We'll see.

Unhappy Reasons not to move to Omnia

I tried the i770 and returned it because a lot of the programs I use, especially games I enjoy while waiting at airports, were useless on the square screen of the i770 (I think 320x320). For the same reason, I asked the Verizon rep if the Omnia would let me play the games I want to move, like Shanghai, Sudoku Rules!, Tetris, etc. Also, these games use buttons to operate the game and I doubt they allow the touch interface Omnia seems to require. I told the rep I guess I wasn't interested in the Omnia either. I'm not interested in a snazzy new interface if it keeps me from using the $100s of dollars I have invested in software for a pda.

I have had my UK Omnia 16gb white for 7 months now, and I rate it as the best WM phone. My omnia does have zoom. Use the volume keys to zoom in or out.

I have used M2D , SPB Mobile Shell and so many other customisations. I dont get blurring on photos , but you do need anti shake on.

I now use Pocket Digital Clock, SPB Diary and Elecont Launcher (small icons, one line) as my today screen. PDC launches the Samsung Clock.

I have GPS software Copilot 7 working perfectly everytime. I have added 30 apps and 45 games. Some games you the accelerometer. If you install the HTC DLL's you can play most accelerometer games.

I found http://www.modaco.com/category/342/i...ia-modaco-com/ this website very helpful, and use a custom rom from the rom sub forum, which removed the unnecessary Samsung today plugins etc...

The usb mode is excellent, and my Fiat 500 car stereo has USB input. In fact the Fiat 500 has a windows mobile stereo system complete with MS Voice Command

I've had my Omni i910 for a week now, and I love it. My last phone had a slide out keyboard, which I thought I might miss, but the onscreen keyboard on the Omnia works like a dream. The only complaint I have is that the backlight won't dim as much as I'd like for night reading.

BTW, one of the super-cool features not mentioned in the review is the Smart Reader. Just hold it over a business card until it frames it (reminds me of a jet's radar lock in the movies) and in a few seconds you have all the information ready to save into contacts. This gets some serious wows from people in meetings when cards are exchanged.

Thumbs up Couldn't agree more!

What a great review.
the Omnia is, indeed, an exciting phone!

It does a great job in adding entertainment and fun to the standard capabilities of Windows Mobile. fficeffice" />>>
Unlike other iPhone-wanna-be phones, it does it without hiding the fact that this is, in fact, a Windows Mobile phone. >>

My thoughts are summarized in more details in here!
