No worries Jason, it happens!

As far as headphone goes I'm actually thinking about getting a bluetooth receiver that lets you plug in regular headphones to.
It has a play/pause button on it which is nice.

HTC has posted the product on their site but I don't believe they make it. I also was able to find it online for much cheaper (around $75).

They have a regular mini-USB to 3.5mm adapter (http://www.cell-phone-accessories.co...t-adapter.html).
The HTC model blows cause it sticks right out of the device so forget about putting in into your pocket. At least the model above isn't as bulky.

Also for those trying to skype with the 8525, so far the only thing I found to make it work thru a BT headset is a program called BlueMusic... haven't tested it yet but hopefully soon!

Bought my 8525 last night, and despite my initial enthusiasm, it's already screwed up.

Take a look at the screenshots of the LCD (warning, large images):

Today screen, not as evident

Despite all that, I am taking it back to the store to get a new one. I like the device - it was $150 cheaper than the TyTN. I agree that the button layout on the TyTN looks better, but I can live with this.

Now, if the store does not have any left, I may be picking up the TyTN.

looks like you got unlucky and received a deffective unit... happens!

i was using an 8525 for about a week (from work) and the one i had ended up freezing up on me... wouldn't go anywhere else but the Cingular 3G white screen for hours. eventually had to hard reset (after a trip to the cingular store, where the reps had never even seen one... kinda funny).

I tried to get an exchange but they were all backordered... Hard reset ended up fixing it.

BTW, I didn't have much choice as far as device goes, I'm on Tmobile so I needed an unlocked device till I can switch to Cingular later next year.
(8525+Tmobile early cancellation fee=HTC TyTN).

I recently flashed the TyTN with the latest ROM, seems to be quite a bit speedier than the previous one.

If you have an 8525 make sure you use the 8525 ROM cause the TyTN has a different keyboard layout (there are fixes out there... haven't tried though). The shift keys are somewhat placed differently.

Cheers,
Sam

nevermind my last post, that adapter I linked won't work... it's for Moto phones, and eventhough it looks the same the pins don't match! I knew that before hand just ran a search for the HTC adapter and this one came up... didn't pay attention!

This is the only model that I know of that will work. In addition to the BT one that should work also.

I've always liked these phones, but I'm curious how people carry them around.

Big pants?

Curious - would this work in Vancouver, Canada? On who's network? What would be the best place to get one (assuming it will be ~3 yrs before any Canadian carrier supplies the 8525)?

it's quadband gsm with triband umts & hsdpa so it should work in most parts of the world. i saw an htc tytn [the reference for the 8525 but with front camera for video telephony in] on expansys canada but is AZERTY [french kb] instead of qwerty. link: http://www.expansys.ca/b.aspx?i=138235

My assistant and I have both been using one of these for about 2 weeks now, as we are considering upgrading our "fleet" of 8125's. So far, however, we have noticed a couple of quirks that have stopped us. One of these quirks is that, quite often, although the device shows internet connectivity is active (either via GPRS, EDGE, or UMTS), we cannot open any web pages. We just keep getting the internet connection lost error in PIE. Another quirk is that bluetooth sometimes just shuts itself off all on its own. Another quirk is that sometimes it takes several presses on the activation button on my bluetooth headsets to get the phone to wake up and activate voice command. Another quirk is that sometimes the device will lock up, requiring a reset, and when reset several alarms will go off at once. Another quirk is that USB chargers which worked for the 8125 will sometimes fail to work with the 8525 (this can be fixed with a soft reset). Another quirk is that sometimes the phone will not allow me to hang up voice calls, requiring a soft reset. And yet another is that you can no longer dial phone numbers with programmed in extensions using the smartphone applcation (such as 555-5555,,,1234 or 555-5555pppp1234). I am not saying this is not a good device, but all reviews I have seen must not be taking into account real world testing, because they seem to be overflowing with praise, without mentioning the negatives. This could very well be because the tests being done are not completely comprehensive. Perhaps a real world user test would give us a more accurate view.

used an 8525 for about a week and didn't have any problems as mentioned above.

PIE works smoothly and the UMTS network is wicked fast.
Bluetooth does shutdown after a while automatically (or sometimes turns Wifi off) which is a bit of a pain.
Voice activation seems to work ok.

Performance wise my older Pocket PC 2003 device felts a bit speedier but that's mainly because of the WM5 implementation, not the device itself.

I'm now using the TyTN (unlock on Tmobile) and loaded it with a crap load of apps (on a 2GB microSD card). I have a BT GPS receiver (using iNav) and a X3 micro headset... everything seems to work fine.

Screen swtiching is speedy and Skype works well though you can't really using many other apps while doing so...

I think my biggest complain goes to AS 4.5 (though it's still beta). Freezes up a lot and doesn't sync all that well... Hopefully this will be taken care of when moving to Vista!

Just my $.02.
