Default PC=Money 2002, PPC=Money 2004

I have Money 2002 on my desktop, Money 2004 on my Ipaq. I think you know what's coming...is there a way to get them to sync, or is that just kooky-talk? I'd have no problem with installing the 2002 PPC version of Money on my handheld, but it won't work under the 2003 operating system. Am I screwed?

No you're not screwed. I'm doing that right now. Do a search. There's a workaround in the forums somewhere.

If you can't find it, let me know and I'll try to explain it.

I saw a work-around for 2004-2003, but I'm not sure it'll work for 2004-2002. Who knows. I'm "in the process" of getting 2004 for the desktop, but I'm quite comfortable with the software I'm using. Thanks for the feedback.

Don't use the Money for PPC 2004, use Money for PPC 2002. I don't think there is really any difference between the two. It just provides basic transaction recording capabilities.

Just to make it clear, I have MS Money 2002 on my desktop and MS Money for PPC 2002 on my PPC. My PPC has WM2003 as the OS.

I gave up and bought the 2004 std. version down from small biz 2003, but I forgot to read the box and it came on DVD 8O , its a good thing I got my first PCDVD drive not too long ago or I would have been in a delicat situation. :|

And I gave up and bought Inesoft's Cash Organizer bundle, with MoneySync included!

I'm running this scenario now. To get them to sync:

1. Install Pocket Money 2004 on your iPAQ. The installer will pop up an error on your PC that Money couldn't be found. Ignore it and keep going. This will install Money 2004 on your iPAQ.

2. Install Pocket Money 2002 on your iPAQ -- but not completely. Run the Pocket Money 2002 installer. This will overwrite the ActiveSync module that's currently there (the 2004 version). Go through the entire process on the PC. When ActiveSync says (on the PC) that Pocket Money is already installed and do you want to re-install, click Yes. Then (and this is the important part), on your iPAQ, when you're asked if you want to reinstall Money, click Cancel.

If I got this right (going by memory), you'll effectively have Money 2002 on the PC, Pocket Money 2004 on your iPAQ. You'll have "tricked" ActiveSync to use the Money 2002 synchronization tool, which Pocket Money 2004 seems to like just fine.

Hopefully that works.
