Default Lexipedia for Smartphone Released

http://revolution.cx/Lexipedia/Lexipedia.htm

"Revolutionary Software Front is proud to announce the latest release in their series of reference applications for Windows Mobile Smartphone, Lexipedia. Based on the Wikipedia Encyclopedia project, Lexipedia contains over 550,000 articles that are quickly and easily searched. This massive tome requires 285 MB of storage but the breadth of its coverage is staggering. Classics, biographies, the plant and animal kingdom, human history, music, bands, movies, business, military, medical, it just goes on and on and on. A free demo version is available that converts to full functionality upon purchase without having to reinstall. Lexipedia is available now for $19.99."

I enjoy using my Smartphone as a reference tool, using it to discover things that I don't know. This version of Lexipedia, based on the Wikipedia encyclopedia project, has over 550,000 entries. 8O That's some serious data at your fingertips! You'll need a big miniSD card but with prices starting at $42 for a 512 MB card, that's not too unreasonable. I've got to get one myself so I can install this awesome reference.

The normal selling price is $19.99 USD, but we've got a special deal for Smartphone Thoughts readers: use this link and you can get it for $14.99. You can download a copy right here from our server (274 MB).

Can't get setup to start. It just opens some .tmp files on my desktop and stops...not a good sign!

Well that's odd - I'm downloading the version off our server and will test it out. The version I had downloaded previously does create some temp files on the desktop, but then the installer kicks off.

Ok, I downloaded that fresh copy and started the installer - it went to the EULA before I cancelled it, so I think maybe you just have a bad download...? Try it again.

When I ran the file, it took a good 30 seconds to do it's thing before anything happened. Considering it's a 274 Meg file, I'm not surprised about that. Howeverit then failed to find a DLL and crashed. Now I fully expect this to be a problem with the machine I'm working on right now. I'll try this again on my personal machine later tonight.

I've verified this download and it does work and successfully installs a working version of Lexipedia. Of course there can still be problems.

It's a big download and it takes a while to install, that's for sure. A little extra patience helps since each step can take more time than you are used to.

I would suggest downloading and saving the setup file so you can restart it if there is a problem.

The setup program installs the application via ActiveSync as normal. When that is complete it continues by copying the huge encyclopedia data file over to the Smartphone.

You can also download the CAB and data files separately from our site (see bottom of page):

http://revolution.cx/Lexipedia/LexipediaDownAlt.htm

This makes it possible to copy the data file onto a storage card with a card reader instead of over an Active Sync connection.

OK...I redownloaded and tried again and failed. It pulls up the installer and says it will transfer it to my phone. My phone shows that it's installing the cab...but then just continuies spinning that little round install graphic on the phone. I let it set there 15 minutes before cancelling. It gets to the point right BEFORE the phone asks if you want to save it in phone or memory card.

Cool Anyone have Lexipedia on an old drive

Hey,

Sorry to start up a 3 year old thread, but I just "discovered" Lexipedia, and this is the software I want !

I run a smartphone (BlackJackII) and the install of the APP works, but the data base is nowhere to be found.

I would pay for this in a heartbeat but
http://revolution.cx/Lexipedia/Lexipedia.htm
is all but shut down and an extensive search of the web only reveals the 225mb pocket pc version.

Anyone have the smartphone Lexipedia database file laying around?

Mass appreciation

Thanks

Scott

I think this is a dead application...it doesn't look to have been updated in a long while.

Default Lexipedia

Thanks for looking, but yes, this is a dead application. But the application still installs, all I need is the database.
That is what I am asking for, anybody that has the database.
