Default GPSed: Track and Map Your Trips

http://software.smartphonethoughts....ur-Trips---beta

"GPSed is a location-based service for trip tracking from Windows Mobile Smartphones. In real time tracks are traced on Google maps and stored in an online archive. With a simple geotagging feature it is possible to pin photos to a map precisely at a place they where taken. Map GPS tracks from your mobile and keep them in a personal archive."

I was browsing around our affiliate software store and I ran across GPSed. What GPSed does is let you record your trips to anywhere on the planet on your Smartphone. It does this by utilizing Google Maps, to trace the route you took, and stores the information in an database online. Sounds neat, huh? Well the good news doesn't stop because you can pick up GPSed from our affiliate store for the super low price of free. Yep, that’s right; you can download this app without even breaking out the old credit card. I'll keep an eye out for other interesting free applications that we have in our stores. Unfortunately my Blackjack does not have GPS built in so I can't play with it. If anyone uses this application, please let us know how you like it.

Can't get it to find the GPS on my Blackjack II running WM6.1
The GPS is on the GPSID port. I could install the Modaco app that puts the GPS out to COM4 but I don't want to do that. I have heard (not verified) that can slow the GPS acquisition time down. After romming to WM6.1 the GPS fix time is extremely fast when using Windows Live Search or Google Maps (and the GPS on the GPSID port). Before, with WM6.0 and the GPS device on COM4, the acquistion time was so long that on short trips you got to your destination before the GPS locked

EDIT: I also tried starting Google Maps and ensuring I had a fix before launching the GPSed app and still no joy.

I completely concur with hotdram. The app will not find the GPSID interface on a Blackjack II running WM 6.1. I also ran Google Maps to ensure that the GPS was running and had acquired a fix. (Great minds think alike!) No matter what I tried GPSed just doesn't work.

I will also confirm that GPS acquisition with a BJ2 running WM6.1 is unbelievably fast. I did install the Modaco patch and it caused the acquisition time to go back to the old, several-minutes mode prior to WM 6.1. I reflashed WM6.1 and GPS speed was restored to the new fast mode. There is no way I will tinker with any GPS settings on the phone at this point; the fast acquisition is just too nice.

I suspect that the GPSID in WM6.1 uses the tower data much more effectively to get a fix, and that accessing the GPS using COM4 uses only the standard NMEA data stream, resulting in a much slower fix. Just a guess, though.

In the end, it is a shame that GPSed doesn't work. I used it briefly on the BJ2 running WM6.0 and it was a nifty app. I camp and hike regularly and was looking forward to capturing tracks and geo-tagging all my photos. I hope someone at GPSed will get an actual BJ2 running WM6.1 and troubleshoot this.

I did not. This is not a must have app for me.

cmusciano is a lot braver than me When I need a GPS with track recording capability for outdoor use (for hiking or ATV'ing etc) I leave my cell in the truck and take a rugged Garmin handheld The realtime online location would be useful when outdoors so if we ever got in trouble, emergency personel would know where to look for us However, where we go, 99% of the time there is no cell coverage

Default Works great on my WinMo 6.1 BlackJack II

This is the app I have been looking for!

With this app, I will be able to trace properties, export the path to .gmx or .kml and then into .dwg. From within AutoCAD I will then be able to calculate acreage.

Now that the GPS is unlocked under WinMo 6.1, the BlackJack II is the perfect device for me.

I am sorry to hear about your poor experience with the application. We had tested the application with the installation of GPS Intermediate Driver for Smartphones from Microsoft.
Re: GPSed Questions"...If you’re a BlackJack II owner, a Motorola Q9H owner or basically anyone wanting to configure GPS on a Smartphone, then you NEED this utility..."
