It was recently announced that Firefox Mobile ("Fennec") was going to be a reality, and it appears that development is now steadily progressing.   Brad Lassey has a bunch of screenshots up at his blog, including some basic pages as well as Acid3 run to demonstrate he has the full browser running!

Exciting stuff, especially as Firefox Mobile is likely to support kinetic, touch-based scrolling as per this concept video.  As far as I can tell, these are just development snapshots, and no public binaries are actually available for download... yet.

Will Firefox Mobile support WM2003? I know, I know, my device is ancient but my iPAQ 2210 still serves me well. Actually, there are only a few items I would change about it:

* smaller size (lose the CF card slot)
* built-in WiFi
* more built-in ROM storage
* a couple additional hardware buttons
* ability to upgrade to WM2003SE (Besides additional Java support, I see no reason to upgrade further; subsequent OSs appear to only offer "takeaways")

The processor speed has not presented a problem thus far.

Unfortunately, not according to Brad's blog:

Some of this has been resolved by moving our target platform from Windows CE 4.2 (the basis for Pocket PC 2003 and Smartphone 2003) to Windows CE 5.0 (the basis for Windows Mobile 5 Pocket PC/Smartphone and Windows Mobile 6 Professional/Standard).

This makes sense since there would have been a large performance hit to support the older versions of Pocket PCs.
