The current TT6 map set for the US is version 665.1293 - this is based on the TeleAtlas 2006.10 data set which is one of the newest data releases out there right now.

Thanks for the review. I really liked the way you compared TT6 to another product to point out differences.

I'm currently looking for something to replace the nearly departed Mapopolis. Now if someone (hint) would just write a similar style review comparing Mapopolis, iGuidance, and TT6........

Default Excellent Review!

Excellent review! Comprehensive, asking very good questions -- very useful to Users from all avenues.

Personally, I found this to be perfectly timed as I am in exactly the same boat with respect to running OCN5 right now and really looking to jump ship hoping the grass really would be greener. When you said TT6 starts so much faster, is quicker in operation and never gets memory errors ... well, you hit my three biggies right there! In fact, having just upgraded to a TyTN myself, it was another big relief for me when that got mentioned as working with TT6!

Regarding the whole volume question: how does the thumbwheel on the TyTN impact this? Does it change the volume, affect something else within TT6 or have no effect at all? If it changes the volume, is it the internal TT6 volume or the system volume?

A big thank you from me for posting this review, great job!

The thumbwheel on the TyTN seems to have no effect on anything in TomTom 6. I see this as a good thing though. If I am using navigation in my car, I place the TyTN in a small pocket in my center console, and the scroll wheel would be affecting the volume on the device as I attempted to listen for instructions, since the phone might move a bit while I drive.

Can someone please comment on how you would get updated maps for this product a year from now other than buying a full disc again?

I have ver 5 on a HP Ipaq 4705. Second version for me. I really do like the program. It works well. Support has been OK but the US office seems very low budget compaired to Europe.

The upgrades have included new maps and that is how I upgraded. I want the new version but it is not approved for my PDA. I don't understand why. They say that the new version requires more power and memory. OK but there are many approved PDA's with the same or lower power and memory out there. I wrote to them and never had any reply. My PDA is approved in Europe but not here.

I recently received an email from them stating new maps were avalable. After looking into it I found out that it was a upgrade offer with the new software. No map upgrade is offered.

I like the product but at least they should offer map upgrades to their customers that they don't offer an upgrade to.

Just my two cents :|

They do offer map upgrades... I'm just not sure how long they offer them for older versions. They're not cheap, though. I got an offer for an upgrade already, but it turns out that they're the same maps that I received with the software. The maps sell for $99.95 USD, which is only $20 less than the discounted price for the full software package. I guess their mapping licenses are much higher than their software development costs.

This sounds strange to me as well. They list the Loox 720 as an approved device, and its specs are very similar to the 4705... specifically, they both have VGA screens, the same processor (with the 4705 at a higher clock speed) and the same version of WM. While the 720 has more RAM (128 MB), that shouldn't matter since most of the other approved devices have the same 64 MB of RAM as the 4705, and TTN6 worked great with my Loox N560 with 64 MB.

I agree with your conclusion... the explanation you were given just doesn't make sense. I'll see if my contact at BuyGPSNow can dig up some better information. No guarantees, but it can't hurt to ask...

Default TomTom city use

I'm interested in walking with my pda in a big city (New York) and getting street directions. Would this system work for my purposes?

Thanks for your help...

Richard
