Windows Mobile 6 Updates: E-TEN and O2 Say Yes, HP Says No
"Announcements about Windows Mobile 6 upgrades are coming thick and fast. This time, there's both good news and bad news for E-Ten glofiish and HP iPaq users, respectively. In a press release, E-Ten announced that it will be upgrading its glofiish X500 and M700 devices to WM6. HP users, on the other hand, will not get WM6 upgrades for the iPaq hw6900, rw6800, rx4000 and rx5000 series of handhelds. The computer giant cited "the potential for long delays, as well as possible carry-over costs" to its customers as reasons for this decision."

I hope not, as anyone that was expecting HP to offer upgrades on their devices must have had their head in the ground for the last two years.
HP long ago abandoned this market. They are simply plastering their name badge on the side of OEM devices and hoping for a few sales at this point in time. It's pretty sad to see what HP did to the iPAQ name after aquiring Compaq. The original iPAQ's almost single handedly created a market for Pocket PC's and since HP's buy out they have seemed to do every thing possible to to kill the market.
HP even turns their successes into failures. Look at the 4100 series a few years ago. WiFi, bluetooth, 400mhz processo (a speed demon at the time) and the smallest thinnest package around, and they flat abandoned it for thicker, cluckier POS devices.
By now, I imagine HP has no toes left from constantly shooting themselves in the foot.
Although having been burned by HP's stance of not providing upgrades to the Jornada 560-series, I had entertained the idea of getting an hw6900-series phone.
Instead, I opted for a Treo 750 and now hoping that Palm and Cingular will release an update. :P
I definitely want some of the features of WM6 and the rumored HSPDA update for the 750. (Palm, Cingular: hint hint!)

Doesn't make any difference to me, my 6940 is fine as it is. Well other than the freezing up from time to time, but I'm sure it would do that whatever OS.
In any case, I'll only be using it until my MC35 arrives. Although this is WM5 as well, Symbol have a pretty good record with updates.
