Default Re: Update for S:i600.04.V:WH04

Dan, did you read my post regarding this? Can you recheck and post both version numbers here for record?

"Uhh...read the screen guys. I had the same confusion initially. The WH04 is the PHONE version. You want the PDA version above that. That is what they want you to check. Mine is WH04 for Phone and WI23 for PDA."

This is fine with me. I don't mind replacing my scratched phone with a brand new one!

I just talked to Samsung USA and I need to take my phone to a Verizon Wireless Store and have them reflash my ROM using a PST device that will properly set my ROM at the W123 level, allowing the upgrade to the 2003 OS.

Just spent 23 minutes on hold trying to talk to wireless support at Verizon. Finally got thru to a body and the woman I spoke with said I can go ahead with the upgrade. So, I guess I'll give it a try

Fingers crossed!....

The websit is malfunctioning!!! I tried to download the new PDA driver (not sure why I need it for the i600 phone but ok I will follow directions)

See:
Carefully read the Upgrade Troubleshooting Guide.
NOTE: This document provides in depth details on how to perform the upgrade, system and equipment requirements, required software applications, and troubleshooting techniques.
Download and install the Samsung PDA Driver.
Download and install Microsoft's ActiveSync 3.7.
Download and Run the Upgrade Tool.

The problem is that the ZIP file for the PDA driver claims to be 5.something MB in size, but only 2.something MB download and the ZIP is defective! Can someone PLEASE put up a mirror or send me the file in email???

I've been retrying from other PC's and either I get the same error'd ZIp file or the web page times out and nothing happens.

Sounds like the load on Verizon's servers is a little more than they can handle. I'm really getting the impression that Verizon along with Motorola/AT&T really under-estimated the demand for upgrades.

Try the site again in a couple hours and things should be better.

You need it because the update software communicates with the phone via a serial connection I believe. That's why it disables the USB in Activesync and enables communication via COM3.

I am curious as to why the upgrade cannot be done with AS3.7.1 though.

Default Proceed with Caution

I know alot of you have successfully upgraded your phone. I went through the upgrade process and everything looked good. Now the phone sits at a white screen for over 45minutes.

I called Verizon and they have had at least 30 phones that are in the same position as mine and they are working with Samsung right now to see if there is some workaround. If not they are shipping new phones out Fed Ex.

They said that there is a problem with the rom image that is on the download site.

Just a word of caution for those anxious to try the upgrade.

Well, after running out of time waiting for Verizon to call back, I went to the local store. The tech informed me that this would be the first time that he had tried to upgrade a i600. After reading through the directions he proceeded with the upgrade only to find that he had fried the phone ops: . He said something about, "that must have been the bug they were talking about." and went in the back and got me a new phone with 2003 already loaded! Alls well that ends well.
