iTunes is plain and simple SPYWARE. Why? If I want to install Quicktime (for Windows), I *HAVE* to install iTunes!!!!! That fits the definition of spyware in my book.
That is so not true. Right on the Quicktime download site there is a link on the right side for a Quicktime standalone installer. http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/standalone.html. So not you don't *HAVE* to install iTunes.
Perhaps another piece of evidence that it is a fake is the fact that the device is a T-Mobile MDA II (http://www.pdagold.com/hardware/detail.asp?DeviceID=154), YET is obviously running the Windows Mobile 5 OS (by the softkeys at the bottom of the screen). Very few devices are getting an upgrade to WM5, and certainly NOT the MDA II
You're right. The MDA II isn't receiving an official upgrade to Windows Mobile 5.0, but there have been illegitimate leaks of the OS floating around and one of the first devices to receive it was the MDA II. It's bad karma, but not one that is easily controlled.

Wow, I am totally wrong, and take back my comments. Obviously I have just missed that all this time.....any chance that offering is new? A recent addition due to flack recieved? They still try and force it, but at least there is a small link on the right now.

Regardless, I was wrong. ops:
First, I wouldn't call it spyware. Spyware in my mind is something that collects information about you as you go about your day without your knowledge (spyware also has the nice side effect of inserting things into the TCP/IP stack and system processes to drastically slow systems down). Bundling apps together is not exactly welcomed in my mind, but it doesn't fit the definition of spyware (or even adware). It's just an annoyance.
That said, I've always been able to get Quicktime separately from iTunes before. I do have iTunes now (because of my iPod), but in the past I never had to install iTunes to get Quicktime.
Well, I wouldn't go so far as to saying it isn't a fake. At the most, it gives the guy some merit that perhaps this application really does exist, but I wouldn't bet on it.
If you read his commentary, you'll notice that he says, "...finally some more words on the technical aspects: It seems that it's entirely written in some .NET language since it requires the .NET Compact Framework 2.0 to run. And that leads me to the conclusion that there will not be an iTunes for Windows Mobile for earlier Windows Mobile versions like 2003 and 2003SE."
Straight to the point - .NET CF 2.0 is not the version shipped with Windows Mobile 5.0. Instead, it ships with .NET CF 1.0 SP3. If iTunes really required .NET CF 2.0, it would have had to be installed separately on the device. So sitting on the assumption that he had to self-deploy .NET CF v2.0, he would have had to have access to the library of .NET CF v2.0 CABs, and if you have access to the CABs, you'll know in an instant that .NET CF 2.0 well and truly supports Windows Mobile 2003 and 2003 SE.
I'd like to give the guy some kudos for putting together this whole iTunes story, but unless I see the application running with my own eyes, I'll stand by my judgement that this is a fake.

The asnwer to "Why" is in Forbes this month. In their Richest Americans Issue they list Steve Jobs. In his write up it says that Apple is extatic about its IPod sales, but concerned about its ITunes sales.
So, how do you fix Itunes? Make it available, and, in Apple's mind, hopefully the defacto computer, phone, PDA, music download system regardless of the OS. You don't grow a business by limiting it's accessibility. If they want ITunes to catch up, and become, or remain viable they need to be on every device possible. Maybe even web-enabled refrigerators!!!!!
The sales of iTunes doesn't matter in itself, Apple doesn't make much money. They do make money on the sales of iPods, so supporting a portable device that isn't an iPod doesn't make sense. There is a riff between Apple and the music industry because the music industry is wanting some profit from the iPod.
