o The operating system will be 3 years old by the new release date of November; only a fool would buy it UNLESS they sell a owner firmware update as Compaq did back in the day (yes, I am a long time iPaq user!)

I agree with much of what you are saying here, but I'm pretty convinced there will still be a market. I'm going to wait for it anyway.
CPU: It's a slow CPU. However I don't watch movies on my h4100 now, nor would I on a hwh6500. Other than loading a large webpage with many pictures, I really can't think of any task that I have to wait for. No, it's not very forward-looking though.
Screen: This is a tough one. I'm really going to have to have it in my hand and install some of my apps before I can say this is a worthy compromise or not. I would have preferred 480x480. I have absolutely zero problems with the square aspect ratio, the software will figure that out.
OS: If HP doesn't make Magneto available for free, they will be making a mistake. But with the delay who knows, it might come out with WM5 pre-installed.
All that said, the reason I am still interested in this device (or at least giving it the benefit of the doubt) is this: battery life
If it had a 500 or 600mhz cpu & a 480x480 screen would it last 3 days with the GSM radio on? I've seen one report on ipaqabilities.com that the hw6500 as is will do this. I am willing to consider sacrificing a bit to keep the standby time somewhere near what today's non-PDA cellphones will do.
