"Someone has tricked-out a Toshiba e400 and turned it into a laptop of sorts. From the pictures, it looks like their goal was to use left over parts rather than actually create a state-of-the-art portable workstation. I think the portability suffers a bit in the effort, but it's fun to look at none the less."
While not the most modern technology wise, this rig certainly looks interesting. I think those of us who don't quickly sell our older PPC's on eBay (or who keep spares around just in case), probably often find ourselves with technology that it just doesn't pay to sell. Now we have a viable alternative - make the old new again by reinventing its form. Definitely a project I would have loved to ponder yesterday while my Internet was down for 15 hours (Snow in April... God is laughing at me...). Link goes to original Cyrillic, Source goes to writeup on ipaqhq.com.
Anyone ready to transform their old parts into a shiny new incarnation?

Sweet, I just got my hands on a free e740 was looking at what to do with it. Those expansion packs are so cheap on ebay now, I was going to set it up with the externally powered usb hub, monitor, keyboard, mouse and access the internet via my wifi network. This is a very cool thing to do, especially when you can't stomach what your still capable ppc is worth on ebay. I just may have to post some picks on my blog when I get a finished product.
Guys, this is not what you all think. It is not about using left overs or sparing money. You shoud better know Russian soul.
This is the hymn to creativity.
Didn't you try for yourself to make all these parts work together, huh?

I don't think anyone here was implying that it wasn't creative or took a good lot of effort to create.

Yeah, Anyone that would go to the trouble of creating something like this has a "GEEK" soul which is dear to us all. Whether or not is done with spare parts or new parts. (It just so happens that the geek soul that created this speaks Russian ).
Now if I could do something like this with my iPAQ 4155  What a kick that would be.
I would love to turn my old clamshell Jornada 820 (already in laptop form factor) into a more modern machine. Specifically, I'd love to replace the old Win CE 2.11 with something newer.
