Default Motorola Introduces New and Innovative iTAP™ Version 6.0 Text Input Solution for Mobile Handsets

http://www.motorola.com/mediacenter/news/detail/0,,3655_3052_23,00.htm

"The Lexicus Division of Motorola, Inc. (NYSE:MOT), a leading provider of text input software solutions, today announced the availability of iTAP™ 6.0 Intelligent Text Entry System. iTAP 6.0 is a new text input method for mobile handsets that adapts to a user’s pattern of communications to reliably predict and suggest entire sentences based on past usage. The iTAP 6.0 system becomes more accurate over time and makes composing entire sentences and paragraphs, intuitive, easy, and personalized.

The iTAP system requires only one key touch to select a letter, and also proposes the next word you intend to add to your message or note. By using past text input and the context of where this text was entered, iTAP 6.0 software goes far beyond simply remembering unique words, slang and abbreviations and suggests entire sentences."

T9 on steroids! :-D This is welcome news, because even though I'm moderately fast at T9 now, overall it's still a very slow method of text input for me. Predicting entire sentences is an excellent evolution of the T9-based system, but I wonder how they'll handle displaying multiple sentences on the screen at once?

Default for what devices?

It will be interesting to see what devices they release this with first. Could it be that they want to release this on the MPx200 when they upgrade it to 2003?
