Regarding apps it's the ease of use in downloading them, what with the integrated app store. But I'd be surprised if more than half of them are used on a regular basis.

Michael Gartenberg certainly has some interesting points. I'm surprised to see that 72% like their carriers. Not surprised to see $171 as the average price for a handset. You guys have been spoilt by your carriers for too long; good luck trying to break away from their grip. I'm also surprised to see Creative still having significant share of the MP3 market. I thought they've given up with the lackluster releases for the past few years.

Regarding converged devices, I think it's also an economic thing; more affluent and well-read populations will not mind having multiple devices as much. They know the advantages a non-converged approach will bring and can afford the approach.

Finally, your HTC HD2 has the pink spot problem. I guess the camera's not really usable. :P

That and the cost. I have probably downloaded more apps on my iPhone largely because of the ease, and there are a lot of free/$1 ones. And yea, there are a bunch that are in iTunes, but not on the phone.

I am really surprised at the converged device importance stats. If 71% of folks in the USA are OK with multiple devices, why aren't there more of them available? Basically I count 2, both HPs. Wouldn't surprise me if folks could care less if their device didn't have a phone, but it darn better have web/e-mail access, and have it anywhere, not just at Starbucks.

I'm also not sure that "In 2012 connectivity will be ubiquitous", but I would bet the number of folks with data plans is going up steadily. Ever since AT&T proved you could force it on folks with the iPhone, I think that will be the norm for 'smartphones'. I used to be able to get a smartphone without a data plane, and just use it as a phone/pda. No more. Got a welcome text on my Pure that said if I didn't have a suitable data plan, one would be provided for me.

"Unfortunately, to use this impressive hardware I'm going to have to move back to 2G speeds." Well, if you listen to the ads, if you are on AT&T ( I know you aren't), you are likely on EDGE anyway
