What's the battery capacity of the Sprint version of HTC Touch Diamond you have? I have the original (square-cornered) version released in Asia, which came with a 950 mAH battery, and it looks (from the photos) that yours if significantly fatter. Your Sprint version, in fact, looks like my Diamond with the 1350 mAH "extended battery" that I bought from the HTC booth at ComWorld 2008 (Bangkok).
As for the usefulness of the Diamond vs. the G1: I haven't played with the G1, although my wife has an iPhone, which is admittedly easier to use. But once I got used to TouchFlo (and I use push-mail sync with a Zimbra server, which emulates Exchange), it's been the most productive phone I've ever hand - and I moved to the Diamond from the HTC Star Trek (Dopod S300), which ran Windows Mobile smartphone edition (WM5, later WM6 for smartphones).
Yes, there are a few fewer shortcuts - but there's a lot more functionality to access. I'm the first to admit that Microsoft seriously needs to up their game with WM7, and if they really take until the end of next year to get it out the door, iPhone and Android are going to eat their lunch (iPhone and RIM are already eating their lunch).
But, as of now, I think HTC did a good job of covering enough of WM6.1 over with TouchFLO that the Diamond is a very useful device once you learn to use it the way the TouchFLO people intended.
Oh- for what it's worth- I'm listening to a talk next week given by HTC's country-manager for Thailand on their mobile strategy- I'll post a report of what I hear! (it's next Tuesday, Bangkok time)
