Default Avantgo

Hello all, a newbie here. I am delighted to have found such a great forum. I have recntly bought an ipaq pocket pc, a 2210 and really want to be able to put it in the cradle and let it sync with avantgo, or another connection (AVANTGO IS PRE-LOADED ON THE PPC), TO BE ABLE TO AUTOMATICALLY DOWNLOAD SELECTED WEB PAGES, SO i CAN READ THEM WHEN i AM COMMUTING.
hOWEVER, i WORK FOR A LARGE BANK WITH A FIREWALL, AND AM GETTING LOST! i REALLY HAVE LITTLE CLUE ABOUT ALL OF THIS (as you can see - I cant even type without hitting the Caps Lock!!!)

Is there an easy way to connect to avantgo, or is there another similar way to do this?

Any help much appreciated
cheers

Siy

send an email to avantgo support and ask them. You will most likely get a canned response, but last time I checked it covers using an IP address to connect to the AvantGo servers which should get through your firewall.

You have to get an ID from Avantgo. Then, if you look in Control Panel on your PC, you should see an Avantgo Connect applet (I think ActiveSync install puts it there). You configure that applet with your Avantgo ID and password, and you can also configure your firewall parameters there (assuming you can actually get through your company firewall). you may have to get the configuration info from Avantgo and your company's network guys.

Not to be coy, but you could synch at home, before you leave for work....that's what I do. News doesn't usually change THAT much during the 8 hours I'm at work.

I highly doubt the admins would let you install Active Sync, especially since you work in a large bank. If they allow clients to install whatever they want, they would be comprising their network. So if you can't install Active Sync, you will not be able to sync the pda, regardless of what firewall settings the company is running. I would suggest connecting at home before you leave for work.

They may allow ActiveSync...

My suggestion would be to go talk to your IT department. If they allow it, they'll know how to do it. In addition, this will give you the definitive answer as to whether or not you can even load the software...

No, I agree with you...

If he can't get permission to install the software, he should just sync from home and take it with him...

Heck, most of the news doesn't change all that much during the day anyway (well, this site being the exception, of course... )...

heh. I've noticed the same as well in the last couple of days since I've bought the 2215 I'm going through information overload anyway. One update a day is more than enough.
