Default Virtual Box 3.0 Drops

http://www.virtualbox.org/

"VirtualBox is a powerful x86 virtualization product for enterprise as well as home use. Not only is VirtualBox an extremely feature rich, high performance product for enterprise customers, it is also the only professional solution that is freely available as Open Source Software under the terms of the GNU General Public License (GPL). See "About VirtualBox" for an introduction. Presently, VirtualBox runs on Windows, Linux, Macintosh and OpenSolaris hosts and supports a large number of guest operating systems including but not limited to Windows (NT 4.0, 2000, XP, Server 2003, Vista, Windows 7), DOS/Windows 3.x, Linux (2.4 and 2.6), Solaris and OpenSolaris, and OpenBSD."

Oh wow.  Way too many updates to list on this small post, but if you'd like to see them all, check 'em out here.

Virtual Box is shaping up to be a pretty decent alternatives to more expensive options like VMWare and Parallels.  Anyone using Virtual Box instead?

I've been using VirtualBox to test the Win7 beta (and now the RC). And I must say that I really like it. There are things that I like more about Parallels (which I use with my main XP license) - some of the tools, like the ability to compress down the hard disk image after you've been using it for a while - but, for the most part, I do not use the features of Parallels that differ any from what VB can do. At this point I use Windows so infrequently and the free VB is so good that I will not upgrade Parallels at all. (And just to note that I have also tried Fusion, and it's basically the same feeling - I went back to Parallels from Fusion after a while.)

Oh, and I also tried Ubuntu on it, and it ran fine (with the caveat that it was a pain in the butt to get the VirtualBox Tools installed, though at least I get them to work - Parallels never did get their Tools to install.)

If it wasn't for the maddening Windows Genuine Disadvantage crap, I'd move from Parallels to VirtualBox for good on the XP image as well.

Seeing as you've done the fun parts already, wanna share your image with me? :-)

Heh. I already dumped it, actually. Ubuntu is overrated. At least OS X and Windows both come with printer drivers for the two printers that I own, connected on my network.

This, however, should help . . .
