New in this version is the ability to transcode other sources of video besides DVDs. On the flip side, there is no longer any more built-in DVD decryption. While this may seem like bad news to users on the surface, it isn't really that bad. If you're a Mac user, and you install VLC in your applications folder, it will transparently use VLC's decrypting engine. Cool, huh?"
In the absence of Visual Hub, the idea that Handbrake could be my one stop shop for converting video and ripping DVD's is very comforting. Handbrake has always been a good piece of software and this seems like a worthy release. It's important to note for you bi-platformular people that the Windows version still won't decrypt a DVD even if you have VLC installed, but I imagine that can't be too far off now that they've got it working for OSX.

I'd be willing to bet Mac the Ripper would at least get the VOBs off for you. Have you tried it yet?
Neither Fairmount nor MTR 2.6.6 work with Wall-E. There is a newer version of MTR (you have to search for it and it's not freeware), but according to some posts it also has some trouble with Wall-E (though supposedly you can use DVD2onex to remove the offending empty cells).
FYI, Ripit works for Wall-E and its VIDEO_TS files play fine. However, using Handbrake on Ripit's output still has a minor problem: the first 5 minutes of the h.264 file consists of the opening Disney/Pixar screens repeating over and over. The movie plays fine after that.
Anyway, Handbrake rocks. I've been using the snapshot build of this release for a while, and I like that I can include more than two audio tracks (for movies with multiple commentary tracks). Wish it created subtitles in text files rather than embedding them into the video, but that's a minor complaint.

How big is the resulting file ? MTR reported the output file was going to be like 59GB. I run Vista via BootCamp on the Unibody MacBook so it's not a big deal to use AnyDVD. OT but that MacBook has a Vista Experience index of 5.3

Yeah, MTR and Fairmount both reported 59GB but Ripit produced a normal-sized file.

Thanks for the heads up on Ripit. Nice inexpensive little app. Worked like a champ (after I realized I could extract the Video_TS from the package contents)
