Facebook Notifier for OS X Menu Bar
"Software developers Lee Byron and Owen Yamauchi have released Facebook desktop notification software for the Mac." 
This has only been tested on 10.5 so be forewarned, but what it does is put an icon in the Mac OS X menu bar with drop down notification feeds, to alert you when "interesting activity" happens on Facebook. I would hope the user gets to define the "interesting activity" you get notified about.Â*
