Default Boxee Releases Bleeding-Edge Update

http://www.tuaw.com/2009/03/06/boxe...lu-rss-support/

"My favorite media center software, boxee, has just released a new alpha update for Mac OS X 10.4 and 10.5 users and Apple TV users. This update, which the boxee team classifies as bleeding-edge (which means, if you don't want to deal with any potential bugs, wait for the more stable release scheduled for March 24, 2009) adds the "App Box" -- boxee's version of the App Store, automatic updates, and most excitingly, a new video-optimized RSS reader."

In addition, you can use the new RSS reader to access the Hulu's public RSS feeds directly from Boxee. If you recall, two weeks ago Boxee was forced to remove Hulu from it's service, but the hackers were on top of it and came up with a workaround. That didn't last long though before it was broke, so they fixed it again. And again.

The process for adding content has gotten easier apparently, and if you are interested in loading up this latest version you can head over to Boxee for it. I would love to see this on the Apple TV but I'm just not comfortable hacking mine. I may end up doing it soon though if some quality updates don't come through for it from Apple.

Coward ! It's actually a fairly painless process but I've yet to see the real value of Boxee. The video quality is at best OK but on average poor. At least on my 50" Samsung LCD. Anyone that replaces their cable/sat with Boxee must not watch more than 5 hours per week of TV.

hehe, yea I know I just don't want to brick it. I may give it a go though just to try some of this stuff out, its 2 years old at least so if I do I guess it is telling me time for an upgrade, I want a bigger hard drive in it anyway.

Worst case scenario should something go wrong is you have to do a factory reset. I would avoid the Hulu RSS feed hack though. It can be flakey and take time to populate all the channels.

Ah ok good to know, thanks for the warning. I may give this a go as long as I can get back to factory specs.
