If I still had my iPod video, I'd so be right on this.  240 gigs is a nice upgrade.  Of course, when I had my 5th gen video iPod, I only had a 160 gig HD on my iMac!

Ouch! It costs as much as the latest gen iPod Classic! And you can only use it with older iPods. I guess it would work with my 5G 80GB model (that's my car iPod and it only leaves the car when I need to sync to update/refresh content/playlists).

I'm pretty sure Apple is going to abandon hard drive based iPods, so this could be a boon to those wanting to increase the capacity of their older iPods (if you can stand the cost!).

I just wish I had bought a 160 GB classic. By the time I got rid of my 1st gen Touch and wanted a 2nd HD iPod, Apple had already discontinued the 160 GB classic.

crimsonsky: you can still get a refurb. 160 GB Classic from the Apple store for $249.

Or you could get the 240 GB HD for your 5G and get a $5 iFlip (after $35 mail-in rebate, orig. $200) for video viewing (7" screen) from OnSale.com (or try some other discount tech sites if sold out there). Those things only worked with the 5G and not the classics because of the whole video authentication chip fiasco.
