Default 27-inch iMac Also An External Monitor

http://blog.expandrive.com/2009/10/...ith-a-free-mac/

"Today Apple released a new 27″ iMac with impressive specs, a unibody design and an impressive LED backlit display. Somewhat hidden in the announcement is a small but important feature - the DisplayPort connection on the back of the 27″ iMacs operates both as a jack for an external monitor and also as an input for an external computer if you want to use your 27″ iMac as a monitor."

I could have used this capability a year or so ago when my older iMac died. Some were noting that they were cancelling a 30-inch Dell monitor in favor of this since it "includes a free Mac." One way to look at it I guess!

That is really good news. It has long been my #1 gripe with iMac's that you had to throw out the baby with the bathwater when they "died" or needed to be euthanized for new PC tech. Horribly inefficient and bad for the environment. Plus, now that these use high-quality IPS panels like Apples standalone displays, it makes them a really good choice. I'm glad this new feature is getting some media notice.

That said, I think that a 30" Dell is a bad comparison. A 27" Dell monitor (lower res & no LED, but 110% color gamut, brighter, and HDCP support) is currently $879 (~$570 if you watch out for good deals) making the Mac "included" in the $1700 Apple monitor far from free.

I see your point, which is a better comparison. The poster was just relaying what he had put on order and thought getting a "free" Mac was a much better deal
