Default Need an Apple Netbook Now? Do It Yourself.

http://www.appletell.com/apple/comm...-a-dell-mini-9/

"Is the World Wide Developers Conference too far away for you? Are you desperate to get your hands on an Apple netbook straight away? The folks over at TestFreaks.com couldn't stay away any longer, so they took a Dell Mini 9 and decided to install Mac OS X Leopard. The process seems surprisingly simple, and gave them a fully functional MacBook Nano (or close enough) within an hour."

I've kind of been waiting to see what Apple comes out with this Summer, and if the rumors are true that they will indeed make a netbook. It is something I could use around the house, or more specifically that my wife could use so my MBP doesn't get seized from me. But I digress into something more appropriate for Dr. Phil's website. Anyway, this tutorial over at the Test Freaks blog is very specific and easy to follow along with should this interest you. I may give this a go depending on what is announced this Summer at WWDC, or sooner depending on if my wife reads this story.

Did this with my MSI Wind. Unfortunately, it was for my son and it was more trouble than it was worth. Driver issues galore and I tried every possible solution on the web to get it working CORRECTLY. In the end, I got everything to work...but there were too many WORK-AROUNDS for him to use it effectively at 9. So I set it back to Vista.

Highly recommended for the tweakers....but not for the casual users.

Supposedly the Mini 9's overall hardware setup makes the Hackintosh much less traumatic, or at least that's what I've heard. I'm gonna order a Runcore 64 gig SSD and give this one a go for myself with my Mini 9.

I just ordered a Mac Mini for myself tonight for much the same reason: my wife has pretty much taken over my MBP (and to use Windows 7 on it via boot camp to add insult to injury). Sure I could have just gone all Giampaolo and ordered a cheap, crappy Windows laptop for her to use, but where's the fun in that? This way we get a 2nd Mac into the house.

The only real problem I had was getting the webcam to work. I swapped out the wi-fi card for a Dell that OS X recognizes and had to place an Applescript on the desktop that would switch sound between the internal speakers and the headphones. The REAL problem is Software updates.

Anyone know of an Acer AspireOne being turned into a Hackintosh?
