Default creaking due to expansion/contraction

Hi,

I just got my new unibody macbook pro. I notice it creaks a little when it is turned on (as it is warming up) as if the case is expanding and when I put it into standby it makes noises like the body is contracting as it cools down. This seems normal to me since my lcd monitor makes the same types of noises as it heat up or cools down.

Anyone else notice this? I wonder if it is because of the differences of the expansion coefficients of glass an aluminum. i.e. aluminum expands much more than glass.

The noises appear to be coming from the area of the display and the track pad where there is a mix of aluminum and glass. The noise isn't from one specific area.

Thanks!

Rick

I don't hear anything like that with mine. I would take into an Apple Store ASAP

I second that. I don't hear a sound out of mine. Get it looked at.

Default Thanks for the reply

I think the problem is actually coming from the hinge because I hear the same noise when I open/close the lid. I suppose it's probably benign. I would hate to bring it back and then have them give me one with worse problems..like dead pixels....

Either of you guys have creaky hinges?

Thanks again...

Mine is utterly silent as far as hinges go... I did have creaky hinges on my BlackBook, though.

Default Thanks!

Hey, thanks for being so kind and replying to my posts. I wasn't sure if the quality was poor or if I had a problem. I actually had a 2nd issue that I was going to ignore, which could be described as three streaks in the display (discoloration if you will) when viewed slightly off-axis. I decided to stop by the apple store and ask about the two issues and they told me they would replace it. I went home to get my macbook and showed it to them and declared it a "lemon". Additionally, the other Macbook Pros in the store didn't have either of these problems.

I was very nervous setting up my replacement MacBook, but it appears to be perfect in every way and doesn't have any display problems or creaking hinges. Just to be clear, the hinges on the defective one didn't just creak when you open and close the lid. They creaked constantly as the macbook heated up and cooled off. This was probably a result of the hot air being blown out the fan ports in the back...who knows...

Thanks to your advice I feel like I got my $2500 dollars worth. It's a great machine.

Nice site you have here too. I'm glad I discovered it.
