Default Mac Ownership Hits 12% of US Households

http://arstechnica.com/apple/news/2...tm_campaign=rss

"Mac ownership is up 33 percent over 2008 among US households, according to the latest NPD survey. Though at least twice as likely to have the latest consumer electronics gear, plenty of Mac users are also using Windows PCs as well."

Macs are now in 12% of US households, up from the 2008 figure of 9%, and in 85% of the households that have Macs they also have PCs. As part of these stats, only about 1.8% of households that have a computer are Mac only. I count myself amongst the 85% group, although we don't use the PC for much other than a few kids games. How about you? Do you have both in your house or are you ?

Yep - a Mac Mini and a Windows PC - the Mac Mini is in our Living Room - I use it tied to our flat screen TV for Multi-Media/iTunes - and being compact doesn't clutter the room. The PC is in the Dining Room and used primatily for work.

We're basically all switched now but, technically, we still have one Dell that has Windows (that hasn't been turned on in two years), one Dell that I just put Ubuntu on to use as a spare in case my MacBook spits the bit (it actually has a hardware problem that will need to be repaired before Applecare runs out in January, but I'm waiting for a new Apple Store to open in the nearest mall - it'll cut the drive to the nearest Apple Store from an hour to 20 minutes.)

So, I guess that I am technically part of the 85%, despite the fact that 99+% of our computing happens on OS X.
