Default Jobs to Take Leave of Absence Until End of June

http://blogs.wsj.com/digits/2009/01...ave-of-absence/

The Wall Street Journal reprinted this press release from Apple today:

" Team,

I am sure all of you saw my letter last week sharing something very personal with the Apple community. Unfortunately, the curiosity over my personal health continues to be a distraction not only for me and my family, but everyone elseat Apple as well. In addition, during the past week I have learned that my health-related issues are more complex than I originally thought.

In order to take myself out of the limelight and focus on my health, and to allow everyone at Apple to focus on delivering extraordinary products, I have decided to take a medical leave of absence until the end of June.

I have asked Tim Cook to be responsible for Apple's day to day operations, and I know he and the rest of the executive management team will do a great job. As CEO, I plan to remain involved in major strategic decisions while I am out. Our board of directors fully supports this plan.

I look forward to seeing all of you this summer.

Steve"

I'm sure I speak for everyone at Apple Thoughts when I say we wish Steve the speediest and complete recovery possible.

I hope that he has a speedy recovery, plus I hopes that this puts to rest worries about Apple's long-term performance when Steve Jobs decides that it is time to go. I think that not much will change at all.

And I think you underestimate Jobs ability to sell. Look at where Apple was before he returned. I think we'll see a big change with him no longer at the helm (whenever that happens)

I truly and surely pray that all turns out well for him. Not because he's the CEO of Apple, but because he is a human being who is sick.

Unfortunately, for the next six months there will be no end of more speculation, rumours and prognostication about his health. Sigh...
