Later this year, pa1mOne will change its name back to Palm, having reached an agreement with PalmSource over the issue. No word if it will be spelled "Palm" or "Pa1m." The really interesting thing is pa1mOne's platform choice rumors keep surfacing.
"...PalmOne has already said it's OS agnostic, and is believed to have Windows Mobile-based devices in the works. Maybe the Palm handle was too problematic for the Asian companies PalmSource is increasingly keen to target now that its main revenue strand, PalmOne, is considering other operating systems."
There are some other interesting tidbits in the article too. pa1mOne's licensing revenue to PalmSource can be cut almost in half if PalmSource doesn't meet certain development milestones by the 2007-2009 range.
While journalists and other commentators have grown accustomed to calling the company PalmOne, anecdotal evidence from folk outside the industry reveals real consumers have never stopped dubbing the company Palm, in much the same way far too many people believed Apple's computers are made by a company called Mac.
I, for one, have NEVER heard of anyone referring to Apple as Mac Incorporated. I HAVE heard people continuing to use the Palm name though.
It looks like they just chose a different font for that one letter (others being a sans-serif variant while that one being a serif variant), creating the appearance of the numeral. Anyway you look at it, it's weird. (Hopefully, they didn't pay their advertising company too much for that idea.) They are listed on NAQDAQ as palmOne (all letters).

Reversing yesterday's trend, now the market is down and the stock is up. Things can turn around quickly. Nice 14% jump.
I wonder what those say who hold it since IPO 18 months ago at 40$ when it now is at 10$. I call that an entire failure and current news probably just the second last whisper before the final end.
