The 7710 has a touch screen and runs Symbian's Series 90 operating system. I can't quite see how the Register say that gamers should love this device, when they also say that normal users will be frustrated with the lack of speed. It must be those simple games again. A PDA with an embedded phone? It'll never catch on. :wink:

Who, exactly, is going to buy it? Size and complexity will make it unattractive to handset owners that might be considering an upgrade to a smartphone.
Existing smartphone owners, who are already savvy about the form factors and functionality offered by the Palm and PPC offerings will recognise it as a backward step.
If the product manager for this phone ever reads this post, please enlighten me. It would an education in itself to hear the justification for this beast.
This is a device worthy of being included in the "smart handheld" device catagory. Some-one who is buying this is almost certainly not wanting a phone first.

i personaly dont like nokia brand. they produce fashion models heavly, thats all they do

First of all, Series 90 is Nokia's own UIG interface that lies ON TOP of symbian. This phones OS is Symbian 8. (or 9).
It definately needs a faster CPU, and if Nokia dosnt go the PalmSource OS route and start supporting faster CPUs in their communicator line, they are going to be in deeper **** than Palm1.
Ultimately, that is what will be the end of Symbian and their smartphone OS.

I'm lucky working in the wireless industry because I get to play with a lot of these toys right away instead of just reading reviews. The 7710 has one of the best screens I've ever seen on a phone. It's spectacular. Crisp, bright, and so on.
And that's the high point.
It's way too big. The interface is clumsy. It doesn't sit right on your face. And it's on the sluggish side.
Oh and it's way way way WAY overpriced.
Frankly, if you're someone who buys a phone because it has the Symbian OS (and you two folks know who you are), you're salivating at this thing. For the rest of us, there are many better alternatives.

As a person who owns MS Smartphones and a Nokia Series 60 phone, let me sat the functionality and availability is much better in the Symbian realm...Pocket PCs are in another league. I am certainly not saying they are inferior. But as a smartphone user, I'll have to stay with Series 60 over MS Smartphones for now. Let me also assure you...I'm NOT salivating at this thing!!!
