One quick question. When I do receive the download, will it include that "horrid" Handango download protection? Or will I not be able to upgrade it again?

To my understanding, you won't have to deal with Handango. PocketX Software will send you the application and registration details directly, so you shouldn't have any issues upgrading in the future.
