Default Videos from the Dom Perignon III Speed Contest

http://fitaly.com/imagevideo/dpvideo.htm

I mentioned the results of the Dom Perignon III contest a few weeks ago; now, Jean from TextWare writes in to let us know that they also have the videos of the winners up. One word: amazing. I can't tap the screen as fast as they can pivot around a Fitaly keyboard, and the Treo typist deserves amazing kudos as well. It's also obvious from the video how Fitaly's arrangement is superior to an on-screen QWERTY layout.

What strikes me as interesting is that all of the winners appear to be perfectly normal students. It makes me believe that any of us, with enough dedication, might one day approach their greatness. :werenotworthy:

(Footnote: if you can't get to the videos, please wait awhile before trying again. Let's not crash their server too quickly )

Eh, to each his own. Fitaly just doesn't work for me, I have Qwerty burned into my skull.

I wasn't saying it would work better for you in particular; just that you can see that the distance the stylus has to travel is greatly lessened.

Default Mind Boggling

It's absolutely mind-boggling how fast these people are...

Scary... 8O

I wonder how fast they would've been with T9 for the Palm. I used to love that until it went bye bye.

Same here. I've tried Fitaly and ended up going slower then with the QWERTY keyboard. I have QWERTY drilled into my mind thanks to typing classes I had in elementary school.

After seeing the results of the tests posted a few weeks ago I decided to give Fitaly another try. I installed it and practiced and practiced with there test app for over a week until I was real comfortable with it. But something about their test results kept bugging me. I could get around 15 - 20 WPM. But when I took notes with it I felt less effective than with Transcriber. Then I finally realized what bothered me about their test. They have the contestants type the exact same sentence to see how fast they can go. Anyone who's taken typing or keyboarding knows that this is not a valid mesurement of speed. Anyone can get real good at a single repetative sequence. That's not what counts at all. I think they only real measurement is random un-expected text. I think this test is completly bogus. I switched back to transcriber.

The Dom Perignon contest is open to ANY input method, it just ended up that Fitaly is the fastest of all the input methods, except for the thumboard.

BTW, are those PDA chicks single?

Default you got a point

I think you're on to something Johnm...

It's much easier to learn a phrase and mimic it. That's not what true fast typing is all about. Personally, I don't want to learn another typing medium that is completely different than a standard keyboard. That's why I got a Jornada 720 after all.

Well i use Calligrapher and i think its the best input method for a Pocket PC.
You will not use it to type pages of text but most of the time just a few words for a contact appointment, or even a few lines for an email. After using Calligrapher i cant switch to another input method just coz its faster. With calligrapher i can copy and paste text using gestures, select text much esasier, and delete text much easier. Pen commander also is a life saver since you can use gestures to start programs or even your signature for an email. Well i dont consider speed the reason to determine an input method for your Pocket PC but flexibility and ease of use, which i think we are all more confortable with a pen than a keyboard

Anyway nice to see people going fast with fitaly, it reminds me my cousing typing on his mobile phone, i just cant use a mobile for sms, i use my pocket pc to send sms via BT instead .I guess i am too lazy to learn to type fast on the mobile and for the same reason i am lazy to learn another keyboard layout

Default Cute kids

I agree with djtipmothee: Those kids are so good-looking! I hope that I'm not the only PPC'er who is butt-ugly.
