Default SCOTTeVEST Is Looking For A New Logo

http://www.scottevest.com/htmlemail...ogocontest.html

Scott Jordan, CEO of SCOTTeVEST Incorporated [and I shouldn't have to explain what they produce] is looking for a new logo for his company. Scott's having a contest to find the best new logo, and he's offering some neat prizes.

"SCOTTeVEST is looking for a new logo and they want to give their fans an opportunity to design it! And they're giving away some cool prizes to the best logo!"

The grand prize includes:
• $500
• A SCOTTeVEST of your choice
• A TEC hat
• A Gadget tie

You might be aware of the fact that SCOTT USA, the company that makes stuff like skis, goggles and thermal underwear, has been hassling SCOTTeVEST about supposed similarities between the two companies' logos. It's a pretty stupid claim, if you ask me, but just to keep the peace SCOTTeVEST has decided to redesign its logo.

In any event, if you want to help Scott out and possibly win a collection of SCOTTeVEST products rivalling mine, check out the specific rules and send your entry in to Scott.

"Only legal U.S. residents at least 18 years of age who reside in and who are physically located in the U.S. are eligible to enter the contest"

I never liked these daily scottevest "news" too much, but this competition is really a big joke - many of us PPCT requlars are from all around the globe.

Plus, the purpose of this whole competition is to get a cheap logo without having to pay design agencies. If you're going to have a competition, make people think out a nice story about eVest or to draw a picture of yourself wearing eVest or something nice and fun like that - instead of utilizing people to do some of your work.

True. On the other hand, a new, "undiscovered" designer might get recogition from this competition and US-wide fame in no time. (That sounds like big bucks in my ears.)

I agree about the US-centric approach, stupid and I definitely feel excluded to the point where I have gone right off the idea of buying any of their products - the slush fund for a 3.0 for winter will be used elsewhere. If they deliberately exclude the entire world bar their own doorstep, then they can exclude sales as well (at least to me).

But the actual concept is fine...look at the quality and innovation in work that has been done for Firefox, Thunderbird and Sunbird. And if you feel that the reward is sufficient and it's fun, why not?

Ditto here!

I have been playing around with The GIMP Version 2.0.3 for the last week and was thinking about trying my hand at designing a Logo, but since I live in Germany

:bad-words: FORGET IT!!! :byebye:

What I don't understand is the need for this personal information:
Quote:
(i) your name, mailing address, phone number, birthdate (including age), and social security number
I can understand perhaps needing some of that for tax purposes if you win, but good grief! How about a note from mom, my blood type, and bank account number? No thanks!

Let's hope they get some of this feedback and realize that a simple thing like this can dramatically cut their customer base. I can't imagine that they sell so many vests in the US alone as to be able to completely ignore their international customers.

Other than that of course, it's just rude.

It might be just about time to "let it go" boys. Rather than complain, ask him why he choice to set up the rules that way. Certainly bitching baout it in the forum who merely posted the contest announcement does nothing. And, if you dont care enough - then. The first sentence applies to you also. Excellent.

Default Wow- I didn't expect that

Wow, I surely didn't expect this response! Firstly, the rules were drafted by an attorney, and were not intended to piss any one off. As for the US only entries, this was his recommendation. However, I will accept non-US entries if the contestant waives any laws that would provide protections to contestants not provided in the rules. Countries have different laws that may apply, and we did not research the laws governing contests in every country, so we just tried to make it easier by including this provision. No real thought went into it otherwise.

Secondly, we are not trying to save money by having someone do the work for us for nothing. With the cash and other prizes, it is actually costing me more than it would to have my designer do the logo. I thought it would be fun to see what people came up with.

I really hope people understand. BTW, no piss test is required either.

Sincerely,

Scott
