Default Save $5 on DVD-to-Pocket PC - One Week Only!

http://www.handango.com/brainstore/...productId=94375

Anthony Caruana reviewed the popular DVD-to-Pocket PC application a while back, and it remains one of Handango's Top 10 best selling applications. If you've been wanting to purchase this app, but the $24.99 has been keeping you away, how about saving $5 and getting it for $19.99? Makayama Software has given us $5 off discount code (605B51E) that will last until June 18th. If this interests you, jump on it quick!

It's great to see this, but what if you just bought it a couple of weeks ago?

The app is easy to use, but I hate having to use WMP to view the output. I've been trying to rip and re-encode my DVDs so I can watch them with Betaplayer....but I still haven't gotten anything that's very watchable...

This is a neat program. For those of us who are not savy at finding the free programs that can accomplish this process, much less do it within one program, it is well worth it.

I've run the Lord of the Rings trilogy through this program and was able to save them to one 700mb CD-R! The best part is that not only do they play well on an old PocketPC device (Audiovox Maestro), but you can run them on your computer's media player on a reduced screen.

The distortion that sometimes appears on the PocketPC does not happen on my laptop. I love the idea of keeping my original DVD home safe and can watch these movies without taking up hard drive space.

Best 1-2 combination in my book is DVDx to rip, then re-encode for Pocket PC with Pocket Divx Encoder. Both free and are excellent for ripping then resizing.

Default Won't work

This seems like a nice app, but with the trial, I can't get the app to do anything-it just sits there. If someone knows what I'm doing wrong, let me know I'll buy it. Otherwise, I'll keep using the free apps to convert my movies.

Thanks,

Rob

If you want something that will encode in .avi for Betaplayer, try pocket DVD studio.
It's more expensive, but I've read reviews on it, and it seems like there are a lot more user settings if you want them. There is even a slider bar to adjust the output size/quality.

Can it convert just certain chapters of a DVD? My son likes Little Bear and Dora, and on every DVD there are so many stories, and maybe I'd like to get just a couple without having to go through the whole process... Is that possible?

Thanks!

K.

Karinatwork,

Unfortunately, the process is all or nothing. When you start the program, you select the largest data file on the DVD and run the program. I am currently taking my kids old Little Bear and Barney videos and converting them to DVD.

To do this I am using WinTV-PVR-250 from Happauge. The software with the video converter allows you to stop and start the recording when you want (so you do not have to record all of those annoying commercials). The file ends up as MPEG2.

I haven't tried it yet, but in theory once you burn the MPEG image you should be able to run it through this program to resize it for the PocketPC.

Great, if this works, I've got another project ahead of me...
