The site is pretty non-intuitive for 1st timers. How are they to know they should click the small 'Change your unit' on the right? They would look at the top for a 'products' link (none), then look to the left under 'Popular Devices'. Seeing their pda isn't there, they try to click 'Menu' (Does nothing), looks for a way to expand 'Popular Devices' (can't) then to the middle where they see 3 brand names under warranty service (user ignores warranty) and tries to work out how to choose their brand (sorry, warranty really is just warranty). At this point, if I didn't know what PPCTechs did I'd just give up.
So what you need: big START HERE button instead of 'Change your unit' - probably belongs in the left ABOVE 'Popular Devices'
Under 'Popular Devices' you need brand names - ALL of them, look how expansys lets users choose brands.
'Popular Devices' probably needs to be scrollable - I'm a bit insulted my Polaris isn't popular!
Start with that, at least users won't leave after the 1st page.
I'd just like the "featured accessories" to be higher up the page. They're way down on the page, one would see them only by surprise when (accidentally) scrolling down, something you wouldn't do because of the productmenu to the left.
I'd like to see an online tracking system for repairs. If I book a repair, I'd like to get a tracking number which would allow me to see key stages in the process:
- My PPC has been received
- It's being worked on now
- It's fixed / upgraded
- It's been despatched (with a link to the courier tracking system)
Hey, if you have webcams on your repair stations, if would be cool to be able to see a video of the repair in progress: Most of us would like to see what our PPCs look like on the inside, but don't want to take them apart ourselves!
Oh, and I second the earlier suggestion to show peripherals plugged in to the device selected. That would really help purchasing decisions.
What would be very useful is a section on pin-outs, connection schematics and layout pics. Very often it would make us users express ourselves more clearly in ordering parts or service.
Ok, that last post about the rubberized back--fantastic product idea. I've never seen that for the Kaiser--would love that.
The best idea I've got, is to provide offer this site in a mobile version.
I access Pocket PC Thoughts via an rss feed on my Tilt. I followed the jump and I get a site that takes a while to load on Pocket IE.
I was able to select my device and I love the customized products, but It's just not a site that plays well with the one column layout. looks fine on Iris/Opera/skyfire, the three other browsers I use, but I'd suggest that you optimize the script for the default browser of windows mobile "m.ppctechs.com"?
Under the "Contact Us" section you allow people to either email or call during business hours. Even though those two are enough, I feel if you added a chat feature that was available during business hours it would be useful.
