Choosing an automobile
  1. Reliability
  2. Price
  3. Comfort & convenience (ride, seats, noise level, interior room, storage, cup holders, trunk, ease of access, etc.)
  4. Driving (handling, acceleration, braking, fun to drive)
  5. Cost of operation (gas mileage, repair cost, insurance cost)
  6. Resale value (depreciation)
  7. Style and appearance

Many years ago (15, to be precise) we wrote a program based on exactly these principles for the PC. A friend of mine used it to decide on his wife, and given that he is still happily married, I'd say the technique has something going for it!
I can't remember the exact criteria. Apart from number 3, they probably weren't too dissimilar to the ones suggested above.
Considering how much it can cost to make the wrong matrimonial decision, I'd say the asking price for this software seems pretty reasonable!

When I was in college my personal finance instructor said the most important question to ask a girl you're thinking of marrying is how much money her dad has. He was absolutely serious. I was already married and hadn't asked that question. My marriage has been a great source of joy, but not wealth.

How to choose a guy:

1. What car he drives.
2. How many of your friends 'had a go'
3. How well does he answer "Does this make me look fat?"
4. How many 0s in his salary.
5. How many twitches did he experience when you tell him you ONLY have 27 pairs of shoes.

Better simplify the UI for this one :frusty:

Should I stop dating this person?

1. Number of times I though I should fake my own death and move to another country.

2. Number of times I broke the "Don't drink and dial" rule.

3. Number of times I looked up "henchmen" in the yellow pages.

4. Number of times I thought of places to hide the body.

5. Number of times I became physically ill and the mention of their name.

This could actually be a very useful tool in my business, which is designing custom window treatments.

Question: Which window treatment is best suited for this particular window?

1. sun exposure
2. need for privacy
3. temperature control
4. client's budget
5. environmental conditions (i.e. allergies)

Actually, the decision matrix would include all sorts of variables, including decorating style, preference for hard or soft treatments, etc. It would be a lot of fun to program in all the variables and see what the program came up with, and whether it agreed with my "professional" opinion!!
