Excellent software, and stable.

I use this now instead of the Mort Player, which is an excellent bit of Freeware. Whereas Mort's controls are confusing, Pocket Player is straightforward and esthetically more pleasing.

or WM10 for that matter. I don't know why it is such a rocket science to have a nice user interface and make file loading an ease. I like PP it has it all, including stunning good looks.

For me, listening to music is a very different experience to doing other things on my PocketPC. Normally, when I'm doing anything else, I'm sitting down, and using a stylus is fine. However, when I'm listening to music, I'm usually "on the go".
I therefore find it very strange that pretty much all the PPC players out there assume that I'm going to be happy fiddling about with a stylus. Is there no player that is designed for one handed navigation through large playlists? That I would pay for...

The closest I've found is pPod, but that only plays MP3 files, so no good for me.

I'm trying this but getting nothing. All my music is in wma format and located thusly:

\Storage Card\Artist\Album Title\Artist - Track Title.wma

with the asx file for each album as well as for all tracks at

\Storage Card\My Documents

The player sees the asx files but not the wma files. Also, the wmas still show up as still being associated with WMP but asx files are correctly associated with Pocket Player, as is the lone MP3 (likely of Chris Pirillo or similar) I have. :confused totally:

Edit: The PIE plugin-looking thing that you get promted to install is necessary for wma playback. ops:

Edit #2: They got my money! Now all original end-user software on my iPaq has officially been replaced

And Darius: remember those nifty WMP skins you made? [ nudge nudge]

I've tried it and I'm amazed at how much better music sounds on this than WMP9.

The only slight oddity is that although Pocket Player plays .wma tracks ripped from a CD, I have some .wma tracks brought in from a cassette tape via Total Recorder which it will not play. These are voice tracks so I played with the quality to reduce the file size which I guess might be the problem. They are still .wma files though. Does anyone have any suggestions about how I might get these to play?

Does Pocket Player play Janus DRM WMA songs, or must you still use WMP10 on the Pocket PC for that?

Also, IIRC the previous criticisms of these 3rd party WMA players is that they depend on the WM playing component from MS which performs very poorly?

Pocket Player is one of the only media players that can play high resolution audio files, like 24-bit/96 KHz WAV files.

If only for that, it's worth having!

All my stuff is in wma. I installed the trial but skipped the additional component, which sounded like a plugin to PIE to let you view wmv files embedded in webpages. Pocket Player could see all my asx files but none of my wma files, and it couldn't play the asx files. I installed the optional component and now I can play wma files in Pocket Player.

It may just be me, but it seems that the wma files sound better in Pocket Player than in WMP with the same set of headphones.
