Default Mobius Europe 2002

Last year Microsoft held a conference in Redmond, Washington dubbed Mobius 2001. It was a "who's who" of the PDA world, with representatives from Pocket PC sites, Palm sites, cell phone sites, and more. It was a phenomenal exchange of information and ideas among people with different backgrounds and platforms. We got to learn about what Microsoft had planned for the future, and had some excellent guest speakers (like Clay Shirkey - he rocks!).

This year, Microsoft is hosting another Mobius event - only this time, it's in Germany! I've been invited to attend, as has Ed Hansberry from this site, and I feel quite fortunate to have been invited. The event will be mostly European folks, with only a handful of people from the US and Canada coming. Having never travelled overseas, this will be quite the experience for me. :-) The European arm of Pocket PC Thoughts will also be there, MVPs in their own right, along with many other European PDA folk. Microsoft is paying for our flights and hotel rooms (whew!).

I'm really excited about the event! I'm not sure what kind of connectivity options we'll have, but if possible I'll try to keep you updated on what we learn. I'll also be staying an extra day (Wednesday) to attend CeBIT, which I'm REALLY looking forward to. I'm not sure how much of the show I'll be able to cover in one day, but I'll be snapping pics and taking notes like a madman to give you every drop of information I can.

I'm leaving Thursday morning, so unfortunately I won't be able to attend the FanFest on the Thursday night. I'm really disappointed about that, but the hotels in the area are painfully expensive because of CeBit, and we have to pay for our own rooms after Mobius is over. One extra day was quite enough for me. :-)

Default all the good stuff

No offence Jason, but how does an annoying person with tons of big dreams and no support like me get a job like yours?

sometimes, JM, it is just plain luck. other times, it is right time, right place. and sometimes, it is just toiling away and hoping to get noticed. knowing the right people helps. networking is a good idea.

i now have a very cool pocket pc job. it's interesting work and the compensation is good. and the original lead came from a 15 year old pocket pc enthusiast with whom i just chatted with on msn for several months.

No offense taken, unless you're saying I'm an annoying person.

It's a tough question to answer. Mobius is for all sorts of PDA webmasters - you have to get on Microsoft's radar, and make a name for yourself in the industry. I've been at this for five years now, since CE 1.0 came out in 1997, so it's not something you can do quickly. :-)

Default The Right People.

Well Thanks for the info Tari. I am trying to annoy all the right People!

I don't really have a wide field of expertiese I guess. Mostly I make predictions, most of which come true. Otherwise I just try to tap the pulse of the public.

Mostly I make graphics and dream big.

My biggest ability is reasearch and getting ahold of people who hate when I do.

Default Have a good trip, maybe we will meet there

Jason,

First of all, have a good trip and enjoy Mobius, I won't be at this one.

But I will be in the field during all CEBIT, due to my job at Magic Software. So, you can find me at Magic's booth, at Hall 6, or send me an email telling me when you'll be at the Microsoft Mobile XPerience, and I will try to make it to there in time.

Best regards,

Helio
