Default Krusell Whitney iPAQ Sleeve Special Offer For Pocket PC Thoughts Readers

http://www.madebywhitney.com/products/whitneynew/pocketpcthoughts.htm

Several months ago I reviewed the Krusell Whitney CF Sleeve for the 3000 series iPAQ. They also have a slightly modified version for the 5400 series allowing for the antenna.

As a Pocket PC Thoughts reader you can get one of these sleeves for $5 off of the price a mere mortal reading another Pocket PC site would pay. If you have an iPAQ 3000/5400 and use a CF card, I highly recommend these sleeves.

It appears that they still have not corrected the off-centeredness (is that a word??) for the 3800/3900 series.

I just purchased the 5450 case from them which is very nice BUT for some reason Krusell put a nice leather border across the front bottom part of the case which make it very hard to use the fingerprint reader and it also covers the microphone 8O . That is my biggest complaint with the case so far. I also took my case one step further by taking out the stock cf sleeve and replacing it with the cf plus sleeve. Then I took the battery pack out of my spare 5450 battery and put it inside the case just below the cf slot. The 5450's battery was just the right width and height for that space, so now I have crazy amounts of battery power(handy for using my sprint cf vision card).

I've been using one of these for my iPAQ 3850 and overall I like it very much. There is the slight problem of the leather boarder around the screen being slightly crooked, but it's not as bad as I thought it would be.

I have had one for a while, and I don't use it anymore. It's nice looking for sure. The top flips up and over, so you can snap it in place and make a nice cradle to hold it. But if you use a CF wi-fi card, when you flip up the top, it's not quite so sleek. The CF card profile will prevent you from rolling the top over and snapping it in place.

In addition, have had intermittant problems with using various CF cards and making good connections. I get the "unregcognized card" "please enter the driver name" error dialog box all the time with this case. Even with CF memory cards. I'm not sure where the connection issue is. And I've had it for awhile and it worked fine for months. But I don't really want to drop this kind of money on a new case every few months.

My other gripe is with the pockets included on the inside to carry CF cards or whatever. Works fine, until you play MP3 files. If you use Divx or whatever, you know the "pause" function is activated by touching the screen. Well, if you put stuff in the inside pockets of the case and put the ipaq in your jacket pocket, as you walk along the Divx player will pause on and off, on and off...

They also glue the bottom piece to the leather case. Mine came unglued. I could reglue it for sure. But eh, time to move on. I finaly gave up on it and got the standard issue ipaq CF sleeve for $19 until i find a better alternative. I didn't feel like spending another $100 for a case, but if I did I might on a silver slider, they do look nice.

I'm thinking that my future handheld will be one that includes SD, CF and WiFi built in. The heck with these expansion cases.

Even better, maybe a future color Sidekick with wireless phone and constant-on net access. If they'd just add a little memory, the PocketPC or Palm OS, a CF/SD slot... I'd go out and buy one now!!!

Good luck!
