Default Happy 5th Year Anniversary Pocket PC Thoughts!

http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/blo...8_archives.html

It's that time of the year again when we celebrate the launching of Pocket PC Thoughts back in October 2000. It was at 10:38 AM on October 12th five years ago that I made this post:

"Welcome to Pocket PC Thoughts! This site is driven by Blogger, a really innovative way of doing what's called a "web log". A web log is similar to a journal - thoughts, discoveries, new information. The goal of this particular web log is to serve as a focal point for all my thoughts on the Pocket PC. If I find a cool new program, you'll hear about it here. If I discover a workaround for a flaw in the Pocket PC OS, you'll read it here. When I write new articles or columns that I want to draw your attention to, I'll mention it here. When I find a news article that I think others should read, the link will be posted here. This will also serve as a collection point for things that I can't put on PocketPC.com - things like registry hacks and my more, ah, aggressive opinions about certain things. My goal is to update this site at least once a day, sometimes more."

What a great five years it's been! From a hobby on a shared server, this site this has evolved into a full-time job for me running a network of three sites coming from two servers, and with a monthly reach of 1.8 million people. I started this site by myself, and now across the three sites there are 15 news editors, three moderators, 20+ review team members, and four people doing an assortment of design, development, team management, copyediting, and server help. From the bottom of my heart I'm deeply greatful to all those people who put effort into growing Pocket PC Thoughts, which includes all of you - your comments, stories, criticisms, reviews, questions, answers...everything that makes the Pocket PC Thoughts community one of the best there is!

For the rest of today and tomorrow I'm going to be doing some giveaways as I announced previously. I've only received five postcards, so it looks like the odds are looking good for all you subscribers. Thanks again for making this site a big success, and here's to the next five years - whatever they might bring.

That is just too funny you had to explain what a "blog" was back then. I've been a reader of your site from day 1 and am honored to be part of the team as long as I have.

Any thoughts as to going back to the blue and orange color scheme of the original site?

Actually, this is what it used to look like. That orange scheme is just a Blogger template I used to dump the content from Blogger last year. What I'd really like to do is to find someone that could create a script to parse all the original Blogger + Greymatter entries and inject them into our phpBB database so we'd have ALL our content in one place. I haven't found anyone to take on that job yet. ;-)

Ahhh... now that is what I remember. I thought the blue/orange might have been the design for a few days/weeks before you settled on the blue bar with the Jornada 540 at the top.

Gee, I feel like a latecomer since I've only been with the site for 2 1/2 out of the 5 years. However I'm honored to be on the team and intend on eventually being here for the "majority" of the site's life. After all, 5 more years and I'll have been here for 7 1/2 out of 10

I'd like to wish the site and everyone who works so hard to make it work a happy birthday and THANK YOU on behalf of all the lurker's out there. I've been around a while and don't post often but it's a great site and a wonderful resource. Thanks again. Hope everyone stays around for many years to come.
