So what are YOU doing on August 23rd and 24th this year? I hope to be at Gnomedex 2002! I missed going last year because of a conflict (waa!) but the Pocket PC people who went had a blast and I hope to be with them this year. Registration is a paltry $99, and the hotels in Des Moines, Iowa are what you'd call "inexpensive". Derek Brown from Microsoft's Mobility Team will be presenting again this year, and I believe they'll have some hands-on time with Pocket PCs. And by August, who knows what wondrous toys they'll have? Other guest speakers include Blogger.com's Evan Williams and Phil "Pud" Kaplan, creator of F---edCompany.com. I'll know whether or not I'm going for sure as the event gets closer, but it would be great to see some of you there!

• Leo Laporte of TechTV is joining us at Gnomedex as this year's keynote speaker!
• Steve Gibson of GRC and Mark Thompson of Analog X will be joining us again this year!
• Online Tonight is making a return! David, Lili, and the Miss Gnomedex 2002 contest!
• Forget the shuttle bus this year. Everything will happen at the Downtown Marriott!
• We're going to let you sleep later. You can thank Mark Thompson for the extra "snooze allowance" in this year's schedule!

So do I (and I was there with Ed). What a crazy, wacky trade show (I'm sure it would have been better, but for the unfortunate timing of last year's event and having to move the event date...). There's nothing like hearing about drunken debauchery the next day, a Webcam pic of a certain Lockergnome's condo complete with drunken Gnomedex revellers (and a face licking) at 4am, hearing about Derek staying in the bar all night long, being told to quiet down by Lili, my alarm not going off, a cetain Microsoft employee switching hotels due to a certain bug being found inside his room, getting partially lost in Des Moines while trying to find the hotel in a rental car, switching hotel rooms because the high-speed Internet wasn't working, the fun of getting the Wireless LAN access point set up, Derek and his neverending bag of gadgets, trying to find the display stuff, a last-minute overnight shipment of Pocket PCs... and finding Dockers Mobile Pants on sale and buying two pair (can't find them up here in Canada).

Oh, and Lili told me to tell Derek to get me back for Gnomedex 2002 (talked to her in the Online Tonight chat while Jason was on the radio)
