Default GlobalSat BT-338 and OnCourse Navigator 4 Contest Winner!

And the winner is....hang on, where's the envelope? What? This is a paperless office? What the...ok, fine. We're also apparently in a noise-pollution zone, so we'll need to dispense with the fanfare as well. Ok, I'll stop messing with you. The winner of the extremely nifty, high-tech and oh-so-fashionable GlobalSat BT-338 GPS unit AND the handy-dandy, innovative and charmingly attractive OnCourse Navigator 4 software is.......

wait for it.....

msprague!

msprague, you are hereby charged to enjoy your new goodies and tell us all what you think of them. For those of you who didn't win, but would like to purchase, you can still pre-order from BuyGPSnow.com for only $179.95, which is a full $66 off the regular order price. Hurry though - this price lasts only through April 1st, 2005.

Congratulations.

Out of curiosity, what stood out or moved you or made you laugh in:

The map cutting for cross-country trips and multiple waypoint features of OCN are the ones that have me interested. As a bonus it will do native VGA support on my X50v!

The Sirf Star 3 will be a great upgrade from my first generation Pretec CF card GPS receiver that takes a long time to get a fix and loses the fix driving through tree lined streets. This would be a great package!
Or was it a random raffle?

Send a message via AIM to Fruit

i'm gonna take a stab at trying to answer that question....

1) I doubt it was a raffle, since Pat clearly stated that he was gonna be picking after reading

2) I think the reason why msprague's stood out was because he used technically terms in his sentences. Whereas the rest of us (you and me included) just gave reasons why we wanna win it...

anyway that's just my guessing so dont flame pat for what i wrote

congrats to msprague of course

btw...i think the gps system is good to have but for me to spend about 180 on that just cant be justified yet...maybe after i had one to play with it then i'll seriously fall in love and become a guru

Congratulations msprague, although you don't officially win it until you post your "WOOOOOOOHOOOOOOOOO! I WON!" post, since a GPS accessory is a pretty big score.

It seems the GlobalSat unit turns itself off after awhile, is it when it detects that there are no Bluetooth communication? Just curious, can it be made to always stay own when it's plugged in to a power source (and not running off the battery)?

Also, is the included Arkon ventmount from BuyGPSnow the same one included from Semson? It's alright -- but is there any better way to mount your PPC? I think PPCThoughts had reviewed a windshield-suction-mount unit recently, I'll go check that out too...

I'm also interested in finding out more about the OnCourse Navigator 4 software (as I'm shopping around for more mapping apps as CoPilot has some drawbacks)...

Here you go:

It's definitely more accurate than CoPilot in North America. It's also the only one with Voice Tags for destinations.
