Default Give VoiceMinder a New Name, Win Prizes

http://webis.net/products_info.php?..._id=voiceminder

Ok, here's the deal: it seems that while many people really enjoy VoiceMinder (an application I thought up then WebIS brought to life), they don't seem to like the name much at all. Myself, I thought it was a great name...but I'm clearly biased. ;-) Alex Kac and the WebIS crew have continued to improve VoiceMinder since its release last year, and now they're ready for a new version - and a new name:

"For a year now VoiceMinder has been on the market and has garnered great praise from our users who find the convenience and enabling power of VoiceMinder in their lives. However we find that most people we talk to simply don't understand what VoiceMinder does by its name. We realized that we needed to do something when every conversation ended with - "Great idea, horrible name". With the VoiceMinder 2.0 release looming we decided now is the time to make a change. So we are bringing the question to you: What would you call it? With your submission, we will enter you to win a small prize package of your choice listed below..."

There are some great prizes available:

Grand Prizes available
* iPod Nano 4GB
* Lifetime licenses of all WebIS software for any platform
* $150 iTunes Music Store gift card
* $150 Amazon gift card

First Prizes available
* $50 iTunes Music Store gift card
* Any Three WebIS Software licenses
* Amazon $50 Gift Certificate

Think you can give it a better name? Jump on over to the VoiceMinder page and give it your best shot!

Actually, I don't see what's wrong with the current name. It's a voice-reminder software, so the name VoiceMinder seems as descriptive as any. I don't think you want a name too long or complex. The shorter, the better.

I think the main issue I got from carriers, OEMs, and some customers was that it was a name that made them think it was a voice command or dictation software. So it didn't give proper expectations and then they were let down it didn't do this fancy voice recognition.

Can you submit more than one idea? And must those ideas be submitted separately?

Well, that's what I thought - but apparently the inclusion of the word "Voice" seems to confuse people because they think it's a voice to text application or something. If you look in the announcement thread I linked to from last year, some of the comments were from people who WANTED it to be a speech to text app.

I still think the inclusion of "Voice" in the product makes sense, because it is a voice-input product, but if many others are confused and it's hurting the ability for Alex to sell the product, then a new name is needed...but I remain convinced that VoiceMinder is a great name for what the product does. ;-)

I'm sure you can submit more than one idea, and at different times...but only Alex knows for sure. ;-)

Some names I submitted:
* Note2Self: or NoteTo:Self ("What you said. Mailed to you.")
* Talk2Mail ("Say it. Mail it. Hear it.")
* EchoLog ("Yell it now. Hear it later")

And a lot more. This is fun. :idea:
