Default Daily Gadget SPOT Watch Giveaway

http://www.dailygadget.com/forums/s...=&threadid=2528

Brad (AKA Numsquat) from the Daily Gadget contacted us, to let us know that he is looking to give away a rather decent piece of kit:

"Are you looking to get up to date information while you are on the go? Would you be interested in knowing the latest weather, news headlines, and even your next appointment in a small, wireless wearable gadget? To top it all off, would you be interested in a wearable gadget that tells you the precise time at whatever your current location happens to be? A device that even adjusts automatically to the local time zone if you travel to a different area? Well, you can have all of that if you win when the Daily Gadget gives away one Abacus Wrist Net SPOT MSN Direct watch to a lucky member!"

You need to be a registered Daily Gadget member to participate and entries are accepted from now until Saturday, June 19th, 11pm EDT. You need to post in the forum, telling them which MSN Direct channel most interests you. Bear in mind the prize does not include the MSN Direct monthly service fee and do check to see if you have coverage in your area. Always good to win a prize you can actually fully use.

I always wanted one of these, but didn't know they were available in Vancouver. The channels I like are news and stock quotes. Does anyone know where I can find these and set up service? Which model is the best, or are they all the same except for looks? Thanks in advance.

They're not all the same, but the service itself is.

Check this, for starters.

I want one but I don't need a watch so my wife won't let my buy it. That and the only beef I have is the fact that the watch needs a recharge almost every night. My current watch is almost 2 years old and is still on the same battery.

I haven't been around in awhile, since I upgraded back at that time to a Tungsten|E. But that's another story for another thread.

Thanks for the links. My wife doesn't mind me getting a watch, but I'm not sure which one to pick and where to get it. It would be nice to use this since it seems easier to get access to the info than my cell phone.

Default My fav channels

I like the Messenger support but I think my fav is going to be the Calendar channel. I don't always have my ipaq when I have a reminder that needs to remind me. I really need to be told what I have coming up or I'll stay doing what I'm doing or sleep right through that meet.

I'm wearing a Suunto, which needs a recharge every few days. It's certainly a different mindset than a regular watch - it's more like a PDA in that regard. That said, I've found it much less annoying to recharge than I initially expected. Among other things, I now never worry about using the backlight - which I always did on my old watches.

serpico - as long as you don't need a bidirectional communicator, it's pretty useful. That's the big difference between a SPOT watch and a cellphone.

bgervin - the Calendar is indeed useful, and much more so than the Messenger support, which has about 10 minute latencies if you have good reception. The Outlook plugin for the Calendar works quite well.

I've worn both, and in my opinion, the Suunto is by far the best. By integrating the antenna into the watch face, the watch band is softer and more comfortable. Plus, it has a permanent seconds display integrated into the displays (which, on the Fossil, can only be pulled up on some faces, and for a minute at that). The battery lasts longer.

As for cons, the Suunto is a bit bigger and a bit more expensive, and some of the faces are uninspired (no analog built-in, for example, although one is available as a downloaded item right now).
