Actually, PF2 is a version of the Shredder engine, not Chess tiger. CESkins, in my opinion only, I don't see much value in going for PF2 from Pocket Grandmaster. I've got both, and generally prefer Pocket Grandmaster. Both have similar training; the look and feel of each app is similar. PF is a bit stronger, but not worth the price is you have Pocket Grandmaster...

Thanks for your thoughts on this. I'll be going with PG since I can download it from the web and it is almost 1/2 the price of PF2.

Default PGN Files

Regarding PGN Files, I run both Kasparov and Fritz on my iPaq, and have a small library of PGN files from the web. I've found that Kasparov won't recognize many PGN files, however Fritz appears to open them all. Indeed, I can save out my game from Kasparov, and review it tactically within Fritz, adding new threads etc. But I cannot open a Fritz saved PGN in Kasparov.

I'd go with Pocket Fritz 2 and Fritz 8. You can then download additional engines for Fritz 8 from the web (shredder, tiger, etc.) However, that'll cost you $80, and Kasparove comes with both PC and PPC versions on the retail CD for $25.

You get what you pay for.

I ended up buying Hexacto’s Kasparov Chessmate yesterday thanks to your great review. I always liked chess even though I cannot give it enough time to play a real decent game. I have Fritz 8 on both PC and PPC (also Shredder and almost all the PPC chess games).

When I just want to unwind and not hunker down and concentrate on a game of chess (after a hard day of work) I choose one of the lower playing levels in order to relax. I find that a major problem with all these games is that at these lower levels all these programs (and I’ve tried most of them) tend to commit Hari-Kari when they’re positions are in jeopardy - sometimes at a very early stage in the game. Hexacto’s is the first chess game that I’ve found that will play a decent game of chess at one of the lower levels with no suicidal actions. – Thanks -

Hey, thanks for the great reviews. I just bought kasparov chess but unfortunately, I haven't gotton my toshi back from service yet (*sigh*) so i haven't had time to check it out.

One question though, can you play 2 player on kasparov against another human by simply swapping the pda between 2 people... or play against yourself that way

Hexacto is also having a massive sale during Halloween!!! So until November 1'st, you can purchase kasparov for $11US. AND if you use the handango code fallsave10 you'll get another 10% off till the end of october... which is unfortunatley real soon!!! But where else can you get a chess game for under $10!!! well legally. 8)
