Default PDAclub.pl Reviews HTC's Herald, Trinity

http://pdaclub.pl/view.php?news_id=12107

We've been talking about the Herald, HTC's Wizard successor, as of late. While it's just an incremental upgrade (and notably lacks 3G), it is slimmer and has a few nice touches. PDAclub.pl had the opportunity to get their hands on the unit and give it a thorough run-through. Alas, it's only in Polish, but the pictures are very high-res and worth looking over if you're interested in the unit.

If you're looking for yet more eye candy, they've also reviewed the HTC Trinity, the Magician successor with no keyboard.

I wonder why the keyboard slides out from the opposite side as earlier models?

While my Wizard with 200 Mhz works OK it is still slow and limited.
What I would like to see is HTC Hermes (TyTn) in this slimmer housing.

It's funny, most people seem to view the lack of 3G as a bad thing, but in Canada where I am, GPRS/EDGE is the best I can get. So having a bigger, bulkier device, with worse battery life, isn't appealing to me. I'd rather have a slimmer device with better battery life...the CPU is "teh suck" though. :-(

Well, you can get EVDO. :P And, actually, my Treo gets very good battery life even when connected to EVDO all day for Direct Push. That said, I do think many consumers don't need 3G. That's part of the reason T-Mobile USA released the Dash (Excalibur Smartphone) with no 3G.

Nah. Signing up for an ultra-expensive ($150 CAD per month) contract for a non-unlimited data plan + voice minutes, and being locked into a single phone for 2-3 years isn't a position I want to place myself in. I stay in the GSM world, period.

I guess this depends on your geographical location. Here in Europe UMTS is allready widespread. In my country for instance you only have handfull of WiFi hotspots, but there is UMTS signal almost anywhere.
Also when you try 3G you actually see how slow GPRS is, it's like going from ADSL to dial-up.

Well, ergo the :P. Alas, Canada seems to be far behind everyone else when it comes to things like UMTS/HSDPA deployment.
