The article does a pretty thorough comparison of two popular plug-ins, Spb Software House's Pocket Plus and Omega One's Battery Pack 2003. There are plenty of screen shots and good descriptions of what each program is like, including their appearance, functionality and options. It's definitely worth a read.

I like the article, but can't help but think that these kinds of comparisons are a bit of an apples-to-oranges exercise. Most Today plug-ins offer such different functionality that it's not always fair to make direct comparisons. Plus, unlike the author, I personally feel that Pocket Plus offers the better features. Heck, I'd recommend it simply for it's beautiful implementation of the "close" button capabilities.

well just to clarify, battery pack has an integrated close button also. I have both installed, battery pack for its today screen applet and pocket plus for its ie features and wm2003 reset fix.

The one thing I love about Battery Pack (even though you have to pay extra for it) is Journal Bar. Having the weather on the Today screen is priceless!

Right. I prefer the way Pocket Plus implements it and the options it offers between taps and gestures, though.

Brad, I have to disagree with you on this one... comparing software is a difficult chore, but in this instance there is more in common between the two software packages that not in common (IMHO). It's interesting to have watched Battery Pack "grow-up" into something much more than just a battery meter!

My personal opinion is that Battery Pack is simply awesome! Having bought it just a few months ago, I have found that it I can't live without it. As for the fancy "close button" feature, I downplay the need for that, I've been using my iPaq 5455's iTask program to close programs, when I really need to (not all that often.) Plus, Microsoft insists we don't really need a "close app" button, since the operating system is robust enough to handle those kinds of chores for us :wink:

I'm glad you've found something that works well for you, because that's the bottom line here. It just goes to show how incredibly diverse user needs and preferences are.

But remember, upgrades are free with Battery Pack. I'm not sure this is the case with PocketPlus.
