Actually, it's read-only in there, so this is more an issue of diffusing the situation than giving people a new place to fight.
Well, I guess this isn't the HoFS itself, but I said "this one topic". It ain't read only...

...yet.

How about each one gets a poll? "The true meaning of Esquire is:" etc. Just kidding of course, I love it as is. Best idea to come along in quite some time and it seems everyone's getting a kick out of it.

I wonder if I could implement this in my meetings at work. "Sorry, that comment was off topic. Now shut up and leave the room! Madame Secretary- strike that man's comments from the record." Yeah, I like that.

Default Read Only for non-participants

I like the idea, but would like to see the individuals have update access, and the rest of us read only. That way we could watch the flame burn and burn.

I know you are trying to but the flame out, but the entertainment value goes down.

Remember in the movie A Bronx Tale when they're all playing craps and they make a bunch of the guys they think are bad luck stand in the toilet together.

...they do that at my work when you say stupid stuff.

This is dicey. I'm not so insecure that I fear other Pocket PC Web sites - Pocket PC Thoughts is a content aggregator after all and we spend a lot of our time linking to content on other sites - but where do you draw the line? One URL? One image? One paragraph? One article? We've had to ban at least one Webmaster who thought it was ok to link to his images and essentially re-publish his articles inside our forums. Not cool.

And as was evidenced with that thread where GPS Passion posted, some readers of this site feel it's in poor taste to post links inside a review pointing to another site. So who do I censor? The people posting the links, the people complaining about the links being posted, or the people complaining about the people complaininging about the links? 8O

We created an announcement forum specifically to give Webmasters a place to post news about what they're up to. We also link to a fair bit of the stuff that comes in from other sites.

I had avoided making an official policy on this up until now, but it's becoming clear that I need to make one. <sigh>

Growing pains Jason - this site just keeps getting bigger (and better).

I just got my Axim today - NICE! Smaller than my old Palm IIIc and even the LOOX. That glowing cradle is so hypnotic! 8O

I like that idea. Probably would go over better than throwing a cup of cold water on the OTer.

If its a review and someone (even a competing developer) chimes in with their opinion, why is that bad? How could it be bad to get more reviews of more product when you are looking to drop dollars?

I say the mods are doing a fine job moderating.

I won't say that I really understand the links arguement, cause I don't. But what I do know is that I am not employed by any site or company which should make my links suspect. When I post links it is on topic and is there to make it easy for the topic readers to get to the information I am talking about.

Unless we're talking about the couple of images of Steven the Dell Guy I've posted. Well, only one was off topic.

And I don't hate the guy, I just think when companies try to use hipster kids to sell product they are opening themselves up to ridicule.

I mean first there's the whole "BEEP BEEP BEEP it ate my paper (dude, i think that chick is high)" Switch ad from Apple. Then its the actor who plays Steven gets busted for weed.

What's next, an animated joint selling computers?
