My bet would be on (b).

I don't know what you guys think, but IMHO this was a VERY bad move from S-E. I, dfor example, don't need a funky front-end. If I need one and S-E doesn't deliver it, I just install the forthcoming Spb Mobile Shell 2 and that's all. (Not that I'd need it: without proper call recording capabilities, I won't use it as a phone.)
The device drivers themselves ARE, more or less, ready. A Japanese guy next to me during the press conference at MWC did use the device to check his mail and I didn't see frequent resets. Actually, he used it as if it would have been a regular, bugfree communicator.
In addition, terminal.hu even received a test unit running WM6.1 (see
http://www.terminal.hu/cikk.php?article_id=109586 ; my article on their report is
HERE ) and they promised to even review it - that is, it can't be in that bad a shape.
All in all, I just don't get why the S-E folks don't release this thing ASAP - preferably tomorrow. There simply isn't anything comparable on the market right now: ALL current of soon-coming VGA devices out there are far inferior to X1. (See my yesterday-posted all-in-one review, along with my former i-mate VGA review, if interested:
