Skymarket - Microsofts Own Application Store For Windows Mobile
"It appears the software giant expects to launch an applications store called Skymarket this fall for its Windows Mobile platform, if a recent job posting spotted by Long Zheng at Istartedsomething.com is accurate. According to the ad posted Sunday on Computerjob.com, the Skymarket senior product manager will head a team that will "drive the launch of a v1 marketplace service for Windows Mobile."
There is a link to the job posting in the article if you are interested. It is great to see Microsoft doing this, but it seems once again it took Apple to do it first and show that it really can help drive the market. Any bets MS has something along the lines of a MobileME in the works, but one that works correctly of course.  |

Actually from what I understand, Live Mesh will be a platform on which all kinds of apps like MobileMe can be built. I'm looking forward to see what comes out of the developer conference.

I didn't say Apple invented it, but they did implement first. If I am mistaken, please let me know the OS device manufacturer that built in the facility to shop for and purchase online applications. |

I don't think Microsoft is copying Apple or Google. For years they have been pimping Handango on us for all of our Windows Mobile application needs. With the recent developer out lash against Handango though, it just makes sense for Microsoft to create something better for all of their developers.

When I got my first smartphone SE P900 running Simbian, SE already had an application/ringtone/media/etc... store for this device on SE website. and that was long, long ago, I think even before first WM smartphone!

Inventions
AppForge invented the on device catalogue. Handango then copied it. AppForge went bust etc ... An on device MS catalogue is a fantastic development.
