ALK Technologies to Release CoPilot 7 in the Spring

ALK is targeting release of new version of CoPilot for the Spring, obviously to coincide with the release of Windows Mobile 6. So if any of you are or will be considering options for GPS with Windows Mobile 6 (as soon as its available), it may be worth keeping your eye on the CoPilot line of GPS solutions.

I have used numerous GPS programs, and CoPilot 6 is about the worst. Hopefully, new features in version 7 would include:

*Not trying to send me the wrong way up one way streets (several of them)

*Not telling me that my house, at the end of a cul de sac, is actually further down a continuous road so that I'd have to drive through my own house to get to where they think I live. That cul de sac has been a cul de sac since the day it was paved, almost 55 years ago. Perhaps they're getting their through road information from the Vogons?

*Not having Exit number 22 off of a DC highway listed as Exit number 2.

*Not having at least three on/off ramps entirely missing when traveling from Dulles to Ft Belvoir in DC. Those ramps were built a LONG time ago people.

*Not locking up my HTC TyTn (a high end PPC) completely, requirig a reset, every single time I tried to use an address in my address book.

It sounds as though you (kzemach)have not had a good experience with the product.

I have used CoPilot since version 5 and my experience has been quite different. The customer service/tech support folks and the product has worked rather well for me.

I find that the database from which they purchase their data is a little dated with some roads being out of date but sending them track data is simple and hopefully this will assist with update of the data.

I look forward to release of the software.

I've also being using Copilot 6 for a long while and have found that, whilst not perfect, it is a good solution. I'm looking forward to seeing what version 7 has on offer.

Interesting. It's probably a function of where you go, kinda like cell phone reception. In some areas, Sprint rocks. In other areas, it's terrible in compariso to Cingular.

Regardless, for me and the places I've been, CoPilot has been nothing but abysmal, and that's compared to other GPS mapping systems (one PPC, two non-PPC). The only thing I did like about it is that I can load the whole country on 1GB, whereas you need far more than that for TomTom. Might explain why TomTom is more accurate...
