Okay, I have to admit, the marketing gimmic worked on me. I just got a ton of free books.

I haven't used their purchasing system but their prices are compatible with paperback prices($5-$7) and newer hardback Costco prices (about $14) which makes it reasonable. That's the way peanutpress used to be until they went to brand new hardbook prices without discounts on most of them ($24 for new released ebooks that you can't resell???).

They seem to have an exceptional selection. I searched on some of my standard woman-mystery stuff and found JA Jance and Evanovich books. No Sue Grafton

It will be interesting to see how the encryption system works, I'm assuming they have one.

I just heard about the micropay system on NPR today so I was surprised to find that they use it.

I like that the books are available in Palm Reader (formerly Peanut Press) format. That's the eBook system I use most.

I have bought a number of ebooks from Fictionwise over the past year. The site is excellent, and it has become my primary supplier of ebooks. It is also nice to have a readily available online library of the ebooks I purchased, which can be re-downloaded. (Presumably other sites have this as well.)

(P.S. Originally, I used Microsoft Reader, but I now prefer Palm Reader. Microsoft Reader (at least on my Axim X5) takes forever to load, and there is often a substantial lag when moving from page to page in a lengthy ebook.)

Fictionwise is great. There marketing scheme here is a good one. Most of the books are the first in a series. If you like what you read, you're likely to go back and buy the others. That's fair enough. Add to it a fair price and that you can redownload their titles as often as you want, and in different formats, and you have eBooks the way they ought to be.
